First, its not an 1895, its a 1894....and by the looks of it, it ain't a 44Mag. either, I'd bet the barrel reads something like "44WCF"...which is a 44-40...check the bore very closely, its probably a black powder era rifle..make sure the bore is bright and the rifling is sharp... good luck. You did great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably a 60%+ gun in 44 WCF and tang sight as an option ................. you add it up: $1,200+

S/N 40000-50000 - Link ............... - says 1890-91 which makes no sense - not broken down by model.

Blue Book:

.25-20 WCF, .32-20 WCF, .38-40 WCF, or .44-40 WCF cal., case colored receiver, 10 shot tube mag., 24 in. round or octagon barrel, straight or pistol grip stock. Mfg. 1894-1934.

Grading: 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60% 50% 40% 30% 20% 10%
Value: N/A N/A $3,650 $2,500 $2,000 $1,450 $1,000 $750 $600 $500 $400 $350

Add 25% for saddle ring carbine.
Add 10% for .44-40 WCF cal.
Add 40% for Baby Carbine with 18 in. barrel and 1/2 mag.
Add 15%-20% for takedown model, depending on condition.

Factory special orders/features will add premiums, depending on the desirability of each option and the gun's original condition factor.

Later production guns were marked "Model ´94" and have less value. This model was also available in both a Carbine and Musket variation.

thanks for the info.
Now..important question..is todays 44-40 ammo okay to feed this old girl?
Now that I have it..I would like to take it to the range at least once.

I have multiple pre-1899 Winchester lever-guns in 38 WCF/44 WCF and use Black Hills and Ultramax "Cowboy Action Ammo".

Made for older guns.

Readily available.

again..tks for the info.
ETA..what is strange regarding the serial #?

They don't break it down by model.

Serial numbers for various models overlap (i.e. 45678 is S/N for both an 1894 and 1895). I know it's that way with both Colt and Winchester.

They state that in the fine print in the link and makes it sort of worthless.

"Note that records are chaotic as all models were numbered in a single serial number range, and numbers are often duplicated, and the dates recorded are apparently shipping dates, not dates of manufacture."

Heck no.

Marlin 1894's were made from 1894 to 1934.

It is an 1894?  They made models 1881, 1888, 1889, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1894, 1895 and 1897.

so I removed the read sight and there are no roll marks under it.
all it has is the company name and patent dates on the top of the barrel, Marlin Safety on the top of the receiver, 44W on the barrel right at the chamber and the serial #.

Interesting .......

Maybe someone with Marlin expertise can give some insight.

Google is all I know, too.

Here's what I use for Winchester ..........

And Colt ................

The Colt look-up gives multiple answers if the S/N applies to multiple guns ........ try 81064.
