Double tap is having a sale so I ordered a box of 405 grain hard cast. I know they have exaggerated velocities in the past, but other then that, is this ammo GTG?

They lied about their velocity for years and I don't trust them.

Good for what?  Up to elk any number of good 300gr JHP will work.  But if you want more penetration and less expansion cast, if it's hard, is better.

What to kill elephants or hippos there are some 525gr hard (really hard) cast stuff out there.  But those hit hard on both ends so where a recoil shoulder pad.

When I say good to go, I simply mean reliable functioning and reasonably accurate. If it's a little slower, oh well, I am confident it will still plow through a Roosevelt elk.

It will cycle and fire. Needlessly expensive for your intended quarry. Again a good 300 gr JHP will suffice.
