Found a JM marked 1895G  .45-70 in great shape, only 1 scratch above ejection port $550 firm. Fo?

ETA: no porting.

FO

As always: Yes, you can find one cheaper if you spend some time looking. But life is short, they aren't making them anymore, and the price is reasonable.

Definitely FO.

I weep when I think of the one I sold.

Anymore that's a fair price. Fo.

I'd say buy it! While the Remlins are getting better, the JM's are the REAL Marlin!!!

I just picked up a 1895GS in great shape for $600.00, and I was (and still am) happy to get it.

Get it - shoot it - enjoy it!!!

Hell yes I'd be all over a second one for that price.
Buy it or share with us where it's at

Btw no porting is a plus

Saw the gun this evening and took a pass. Guy's idea of "great condition" not so much....  To start it's a last year model (90 prefix) JM and every screw on the gun is boogered, some more than others, there's finish loss on the barrel, dents and scratches in the wood. It's obviously had a large number of rounds through it (action worn and a little loosy-goosy) and the "small scratch" above the ejection port were actually 3 deep gouges as if someone were prying on the bolt with a tool and slipped a few times. The bolt itself has some browning and flecking. The bore, while bright had very shallow rifling and looked a bit worn. I tried to get him to come down some and he said he could get more if he wanted so, I split. I've always liked the straight lever models so I do want an older one eventually. Kicking myself for not grabbing the .450 guide I saw a few years back for $425. The store owner is a good aquaintance and he was gonna throw in a few boxes of ammo he got with it and some brass.

I saw a brand spanking new SBL recently and it looked really good although it was almost a grand I might have to save up. Fit and finish was damn nice and it cycled very smooth.

Too bad, but you did the right thing.

Sorry it didn't work out - but you looked for the right hints, and took them!

The LGS has a brand new SBL on the shelf, this one looks good - sights are on the gun straight, and the wood to metal & metal to metal fitting was good. The action was a little rough, but that will work in - they were asking $999.00 so I wasn't too interested.

Keep looking - good one are out there.

Don't mean to thread-jack, but what does all this FO mean? Been seeing it over and over, only on Arfcom.
Thanks.

Far be it for me to challenge Arfcom lore - but on other forums, it stands for "Fork Over" or "Fork Out" the money!

Thanks for the help guys. There are a few more listed locally for around $100 more so I'll have to contact some owners and do some horse tradin'.  One comes with a 4x scope (of unamed manufacture), a set of XS sights and ammo, so may be a good deal.
