| Trying to get a Marlin 1895SBL for our club gun auction. Cabela's guy said they just sent 4 back because there were burrs in the action screwing things up. They suspect because they are being made in the Remington factory and things are not as good. Any thoughts or real info? |

Take a look hear some of the new marlins leaving Remington are total crap there building some SBL with guide gun barrels and leaving the blank dovetail in the barrel screws gouged and just overall the workman ship has suffered but I did see a 336SS at a local store that was a Remington built marlin and over all it was a nice gun if you are looking for a new marlin look over it real well before you decide to buy.
ETA. I found this lot of pix of some of the crap Remington is doing |

Around Aug or so last year Marlin closed the New Haven, CT plant. All production was moved to one of the Remington plants. Lever guns are made in Illion, NY and centerfire bolt guns with the .22s (minus the 39) are made in Mayfield, KY. Bad part is out of 300+ employees Remington only took 1 employee to Illion. So, all new Marlins are being made by new hired employees without experience. You can tell the new Remington guns as they have the REP proof on the barrel. More info can be found on MarlinOwners.com

| Wow. I hope the 1895SBL we get is ok cause the raffle tix are all printed!!! DAMN!!! Those pictures in that thread are horrible. I can't believe that could get out of the QC dept. That looked like a 50yr old used gun that some idiot owned and tried to "fix" a few times!! |

That looked like a 50yr old used gun that some idiot owned and tried to "fix" a few times!! FYI…I was in the local gun store today and they had 2 1895GS both built by Remington I look over both over them really well and cycled the action over all the seemed like nice rifles wood to metal fit was as good or better than my 2007 marlin guide gun the only thing I could see that was at all a miss was the checkering seems to be cut or burned in with a laser instead of how marlin use to do it with a stamp or press checkering was deep and sharp but did have some dark edges. Honestly if I did not already have a 1895GS I see no reason why I would not buy one of the ones I saw. I still prefer a Connecticut made marlin but if Remington starts producing guns like these two I believe I will be buying a new marlin…..Hopefully your SBL will be one of the good ones let us know how it looks once you get it. |

I handled 2 1895SBL's the other day and noticed the rear sight was visibly canted to the right on one of the rifles. The employee told me there was nothing wrong with it until I insisted he compare it to the other one... That gun is still on shelf after he agreed with me..... Both cycled fine, but one was deff going to have issues...
You shouldn't need experience to know sights shouldn't be crooked before allowing the gun to leave the factory

had a chance to look over one of the new 336W rifles the other day
The barrels are still marked North Haven, but the reciever has the new serial number. The stock finish looked horrid and the front sight was very badly canted. If this is now standard for Marlin, its a very sad day |
| I gotta stop at Cabelas today and am gonna ask how they are doing getting me a 1895sbl. They sent 4 back to Marlin for possible QC problems. I hope they work it out cause the raffle tix are printed and on the way to me!!! No problems with the Kimber Pro CDP II that we have for the raffle though, but I didn't expect there to be!! That thing is SWEET!!! |
| I have seen two of the Remington made SBL rifles. One as ok, nothing great and the other had such tool chatter around the ejection port that it would never clean up. Older Marlin is the one to find. I had thought about getting rid of my GBL to my brother, but I think not since I could not replace it with a good one. |
| Oh, these are not just cosmetic things. These are proper function things! They had one gun at Cabelas that opened the lever and you couldn't close it again! They had a guy buy one and he loaded it up at the range and when he tried to load a round it stuck in the chamber and he couldn't get it out. Had to take it to a gunsmith to diassemble it. Crazy stuff coming out of there. Not a good thing at all. |
