Does/ has anyone ever used a holgraphic or red dot sight on their levergun? If so would you recomend this set up or just use a variable power scope?

Thanks

I have a Burris Fastfire 2 on my Marlin lever 38/357.  It is small, lightweight, and fast, but when the light gets to low (like at dusk) it is hard to see the dot.  I like the mount that Burris sells for it that is purposely built for lever actions.

I've shot this rifle and thought the aimpoint worked very well.

I'm sure they work fine, but I think they just look strange on a lever.  Though I admit, that's a pretty sick looking rifle in the picture above...can, and all.

I just set up my Marlin guide with a scout scope set up, fixed power 2.5 long eye relief scope set out on the XS Lever Scout mount.  Perfect solution, IMHO.  Of course, I don't plan on reaching out and touching anything at long distances, if you are then variable is probably the way to go.  I just assume not since you are asking about scopes without magnification.

What scout scope are you running? the Burris?

What silencer is on your .44 magnum. Do you use subsonic ammo ?

It's not mine.  I just take the pics.  It's a .38 rifle.  Not sure what the can is but I can find out.  With sub sonic ammo, it's super quiet.

Almost embarrassed to say.  I've mounted the NCStar SPB2530B Pistol and Long Eye Relief Scope.  Picked it up from Optics Planet for $36 shipped.  I wouldn't have even considered it but I've read some positive reviews over on the Marlin Owner's forum and figured for that kind of cash I wasn't really out anything if it crapped out on me and it gives me time to save up money for a Burris or Leupold.

I have a 1895G guide gun that came with a XS scout rail so I put a Burris Fastfire on it for something different.  This is the gun at the top and actually works pretty well as I can turn it on & off with my left thumb with the rifle shouldered.  I really prefer a small variable though, something from 1-3 to 1.5-5 power works well for me.

Grizzly Arms Custom in .35 rem. Lots of custom work on this gun...with a high price tag accordingly. The lever is butter smooth and I can throw that thing faster then any lee-enfield I have every tried. I simply can not go back to stock lever actions again, and I would highly suggest that you all have a good smith work on your lever as it makes all the difference in the world. It took me a while to finalize all the mods on this rifle but I am happy with what I have on it right now, just installed the Burris 1-4x with its illuminated sight and I am digging it.

What's up with that butt cuff? Is that kydex or thin leather shaped around a box. Looks nice. A nice mod would be to add more shell loops on the outside.

That is a mighty fine general purpose rifle for our country.

its a "bio-flex" silicone. Thompson makes them for their TC rifles, but they work great on lever guns. It is probably the most secure way to carry extra rounds, and you can seat them in far enough so that not even a 20ft drop would knock them out.
Leather butt cuffs are nice, but they can loosen up and weather can affect them. For around $25 or less those TC ones are the best value on the market. Most of those crappy mikes cuffs run that much.

I also have the Burris FastFire on a 30-30. It is the fastest sight I have ever used and I have mine mounted on the rear of the receiver so I can carry the rifle in the "lever action carry " mode. I can also remove the FastFire in less than 10 seconds and use the pre-sighted in XS ghost ring rear, which is pretty fast and accurate itself.
