What is the appropriate humidity level inside a safe? I have a monitor inside and outside my safe and the level inside the safe is consistently below that outside by 5%. I am trying to determine if I need something to manage humidity inside my safe or not.

Thanks!

I remember reading somewhere between 45% to 55%.

I suppose it all depends on the humidity level of the room the safe is in but I am starting to think all this humidity talk is FUD buy the manufactures.

Humidity and heat help mold and mildew grow. I had some mold growth start on my M1 Garand stock after a basement flood.

I have had my safe in our walk out basement for about 10 years.

The basement has central heat and air but it tends to be a little more humid down there.

Sometimes, especially during the mild spring and fall weather, the HVAC system doesn't run much and I have worried about the conditions in my safe.

Several years ago I started checking the temp/humidity using a data logger that we bought to monitor my wife's greenhouse.

The conditions were about the same every time I checked.

While the humidity level seems high, I have never had any issues with rust or mold.

Here are the results from one session with the data logger.
