I have been using these for years and they work well.  If no one knows where the magnet is supposed to be placed it makes it a bit more secure.

I seen those, but not too excited about a plastic lock.. Im wondering how much weight it could hold, and if tugged on, would it open?

Look up "Magnetic Access Control"

You'll find magnetic strike plates for doors and other magnetic accessories used for security systems.  There is a lot of good stuff out there, not too difficult to install if you can read a schematic.

You can get magnetic door locks that put 800lbs or more electromagnetic force on a door making it impossible to break through.  Pretty neat stuff.

the electromagnetic ones look sweet, but boy they get pricey.

I wonder how much weight one of the plastic ones could have basically sitting on it, until it failed.. the area i have in mind, would hold my AR, a few mag's, and either my 1911 and a few mags, or my P2340 and a few mags. i wasnt planning on flushing the area around it, but i guess i could do that in the event someones snooping around, so they wouldnt see it.

They can get pretty pricey, however there are lots of makes and models available that will fit your needs.  It seems you don't need an 800lb magnetic lock, but one that will secure your items from view and tampering.

The mag lock is not the expensive piece.  The power supply and motherboard is the part that is pricey.  Let me check into what I can find.  IM me with some details and what you are looking to spend and I'll see what I can do.

OP, there can be no weight on the lock when you try to open it.  But they will hold a lot of force.  I have seen people pull the knobs off their doors when the lock is engaged.  They are really designed to hold a door or panel closed, not support the weight of something.

I had a wooden gun cabinet with a hidden panel.  The locks worked great as it was only holding the door closed.  The items were mounted to the inside wall.

My plan was to have a false ceiling / bottom [depending on where you were], with the equipment mounted to it, but i may look into more of a cabinet. Was mainly curious about the locks. Much appreciated fellas.
