I've seen a lot of companies offer garage delivery for a surcharge, but nothing over a 2-3% grade. Based on my math, I have about a 10% grade.

I know I can hire outside help to get it up into the garage and eventually into it's final place, but after looking into it with a local company, they seem to want me to have the safe delivered to the moving company, then have them make the delivery and final move rather than have the moving company meet me on the day of delivery.

Only issue with the latter is getting the timing right so I don't have a 1200 lb object covered with a tarp for 5 hours waiting for someone to show up to move it.

Suggestions? Is what they suggest normal?

Motorized pallet jack is an option, but at what point does tipping become a concern for a 65" tall safe?

In my situation grade was not a concern but I noticed that the sellers only dropped it off in front of your house, the rest was the buyers problem.  I went with a local company which would deliver then place at the spot of your choice.  For me, that was a pretty big distinction.

If the safe you are looking at is 1200 lbs that is not much weight. I once had a 1000 lb RSC (since sold) and it moved up steeper grades that what you mentioned. I am not sure where you are in Oregon but check with NWSAFE before you buy, they are in Washington but I believe they deliver to parts of Northern Oregon.

I'm in the Tigard area, so fairly close to Washington. I'll be sure to give them a call. Thanks.

Here is a link,

They also have a facebook page, at least one of their employees (maybe two) are Arfcom Members.

ETA their website shows they deliver to Vancouver, what is crossing one more bridge and going a few more miles to Tigard. They have a lot of stuff in their store that they do not have on their website including AMSEC, Graffunder, National, and Original (TL30X6 import).

Some cash for the delivery driver was all it took for me... Think I tipped him around $50 and he would have put that darn thing wherever I wanted... Don't think they get tipped often, he was very accommodating.  Mine was also about that same weight... Once in the garage, I  removed from the pallet and onto some 1.25" galvanized steel nipples  from lowes... I had several buddies on hand to assist with the final move but once on the nipples it rolled around so darn easy, it only took a couple of us... I was actually quite shocked at how easy it moved.  Those darn Egyptians were on to something

The company I got mine from had a "drop off at door" for normal delivery, but for $100 they would install it anywhere in the house. Even downstairs in the basement!
The one thing they told me that they found out in doing these for years, is that if you want to move it by yourself later, use golf balls. They'll work on all kinds of flooring, won't mark up hardwood, cheap, and most people have them, or know somebody that does. They did give me one other pointer about my safe that helps a lot if by myself. remove the door, and move it separately. The door on my safe is about 1/3 the weight of the safe. BUT my safe has external hinges so I can just lift it off the box, this won't work on the internal hinge type. Since you didn't say what type you are getting I don't know if that helps you or not.
Good Luck, but don't get a hernia.
