I need some ideas how to secure a 220VAC 50A welding outlet from unwanted use.
Left unsecured, it could be used to support a welder or hand held plasma cutter to breach things.

Perhaps a locking cover, knife switch, etc.

Thanks.

Locked breaker panel?  Locked breaker within an unlocked panel?

Might be easier to secure at the panel than the outlet.

It seems like you can weld, so build a steel security box to go around it.

I'm thinking about a locked steel disconnect switch upstream of the outlet...
A power pilot lamp could be added to it as a reminder to lock it back out.

where is the outlet located? if its outside just put a disconnect on it inside.

Put one of those locking covers over the plug of your welder.    We have them at work for locking out the welder itself.   If someone brings a plasma torch to your house to use in breaking in chances are they are bringing a gas generator too or it's an inside job.

Layered security.

i would run a hard to find european outlet and then make a converter with a 220 extension cord. that way you don't mess with your machines and nothing american will plug into the outlet. then you just have to hide the converter that you build. maybe even throw it in the safe...

Store a couple pounds of Goex in your safe.  The problem will solve itself.

I have a large 30amp twist lock outlet on the outside of my house I use to hook up my generator. The outlet has a Hubble marine spring loaded cover which also has a built in hasp for a padlock. Most marine connection boxes and covers have some provision for a lock. May be your best bet.

Just turn the breaker off when not using it.

Wow there are some complicated answers in this thread.  Just buy an outdoor RV hookup housing/outlet.   They are weather sealed and can be locked.  You can find them at home depot.

a padlock on a little metal or plastic flap will not stop a thief!

how about something simple like this
it is basically a switch and you can have a key turn the outlet off. you could even put this in a remote location so no one has a clue what it is for or what it does. you would have to find one that can handle the 50 amps though. the idea is cool though.

Lol I think we all know and understand that with enough time and patience a thief will find and take anything.

Put a sticker on the safe that says "Explosives - Black Powder Storage"
