| My mom lives alone and I live out of state, she has had her house broken into years ago and installed an alarm system. Someone stole my battery charger and several other things out of the carport and garage last week. The house is on a dead end road at the backside of 40 acres and I would like to get her a camera system to watch over the outside and send alerts if someone sets the camera off. Any ideas on something simple to use, iPhone friendly? |

Any ideas on something simple to use, iPhone friendly? Blue Iris will work for that, if you have a computer to allow it to remain running in the background and that is hooked up to the internet. I'm currently running 4 Foscam cameras through it. Blue Iris has a built in webserver that only requires one to set up port forwarding on one single port. It also has a proprietary dynamic IP address server included in the 50 dollar purchase price. The iPhone and Android apps are 10 bucks, but work like a champ and even allows PTZ control of any PTZ cameras you may have via the internet. There are a bunch of ways to achieve what you want to do, hgowever they all have a few common requirements like having a full time internet connection, and network addressable cameras which need to have their ports forwarded so they can be seen via the net. Mine are all wireless so once they are configured they are querryable over the internet. Blue Iris really simplified all that stuff as it only needs to have one port set up. It will send video off site to pretty much wherever you want it to go. Motion detection, FTP server storage, email alerts and text messages for alerts. |

We have 3 dropcams at our house. We love them. No they aren't a state of the art system but it works well for our purposes. It's also a super cost effective system for what you get. It also works well with the iPhone, but we use a Nexus 7 as a standalone video monitor to see what is happening around the house.
Also, Dropcam has great customer service. One of our cams went bad and they immediately shipped out a replacement. |
