I was looking at the safelert monitoring device.
Is there an EASY way to do this yourself? Its 200 smackers plus monthly fees for something that sends you a message on your phone if it vibrates. Anyone have any thoughts or know of any similar items you can buy like this? No I can not make one myself im a tech jagoff. |
| I have ADT and I had them mount a wireless motion detector in the upper-left hand corner of my safe. I place a can of RemOil close to but not in front of the sensor so if it is tipped over, the sensor will pick up on it. My safe is bolted down but with enough muscle, I'm sure it could be tipped. The ADT system texts and then calls my cell phone when an alarm goes off. It cost me $30 to have it installed in the safe but no extra charge on my monitoring bill. |

Honeywell wireless, works with your alarm, assuming you have like a Vista system which are very popular/common.

Did you take a look at SimpliSafe it doesn't rely on internet connection or telephone line, is has its own built in cellular and monitoring is $15 a month. http://simplisafe.com/wireless-home-security-feature-overview This! We use simplisafe. We have a motion detector in the room with the safe. And then we attached a door monitor to the inside of the safe. That way anytime the door is opened, our alarm dings. |

The cool deal is to integrate safe monitoring iinto your existing alarm services. Also, to make this really work, move to cellular phone service. No, not the cellular monitoring that you alarm service provider sells, but the new home system (Verizon) that provides cellular for home lines. We use it, it's CHEAPER than land lines. If you power it from a small UPS power backup, it's alive all the time, even if the bad guys cut power and phone lines. Now, get your alarm service provider to mount a wireless Vibration Sensor, Fire Detection and Door Contact on your safe. Set up the appropriate monitoring options (text/email/audible alerts) and you are in business. Out of pocket cost is trivial.

I use motion detectors for all of my home alarm. At least three are affected by movement toward the safe from most access points. One of my security cams is pointed to the safe at face level. I am the monitoring service. There is nothing I hate worse than monthly bs debt. |

Most motion sensors are thermal and work by detecting differences in temperature between a human body and ambient temperature. Everything in the safe is the same temperature at the inside of the safe. No thermal delta, no alarm. |

There are three basic types of motion detectors.
1. Ultrasonic/Microwave: Detects motion (similar to sonar) - it uses an Active technology 2. Passive Infrared: Detects presence of heat signature - it uses a Passive technology 3. Dual Technology (Dual-Tech): Combines the attributes of both Microwave (Active) and Infrared (Passive) to reduce the potential for false alarms. A Dual Tech PIR needs to see both Heat and Motion simultaneously in order to go into alarm state. This is the most popular and reliable technology, for obvious reasons. |

Why not have a switch added to the door as well? |
