Gents,
Kinda at a deadend with a problem.  Bought a home with an existing alarm system.  Do not have the code from the previous owners, nor am I able to contact them.  I would like to use the alarm system without monitoring to start with.  The system has power and appears to be fully functional.  I called the folks who put the system in (C.A.T.S)  and they would not come out and check the system out and unlock the previous code with the override code unless I sign up for their rather expensive monitoring package.  Is that a common practice?  Is their a way to figure out the override code without their help?  Is their another avenue I should pursue?
Thanks,
ABdriver

I would contact an independent installer that is familiar with that system, possibly contact the manufacturer, not the installer. I would never do business with a company that refused to help you in a situation like that, even if they charged you something to come out that would be fair. Outright refusal to help unless you sign up sounds like BS to me.

What brand of system is it? Tell us the make and model. Also take a look at how many zones you have, how many seem wired in at the control box, etc.

There are some relatively cheap fixes if I can't google the installer code.
