I need some advise on home security systems. I am going to be moving into a rental home (going to stay a couple of years its not permanent) that has no security system, I need a system that is not permanent, and does very little damage to the house doors, walls windows, ect. I found this Frontpoint security system that is completly wirless, the door, window, and motion detectors all attatch with a sticky type of tape (from what I understand) and it works off cell service and not a LAN line. I like this idea because when I buy a house later down the road I can take it with me and add to it if need be. This company has good reveiws online with customer service and 24hr monitoring. If anyone has this system I would like to know what you experence with it is, and I am open to suggestions if anyone has any other ideas on what I can do to make my rental home safe.

Buy a Honeywell Lynx instead. Non proprietary equipment means you can buy more from anyone.

I got Frontpoint about a month ago after my house got broken into, so far I like the system a lot. I've already added extra motions and sensors, and will probably add more. Their customer service is really helpful and patient .  I really like the phone app, it lets you track the status of the sensors whether the system is armed or not, I've left and forgotten to arm the system and it sent a reminder text.  I still need to 'accidentally' set it off to see how quickly they call, but I've set it off and disarmed it a couple of times and got the pending alarm push and text 30 seconds to a minute later.  The tape on the window/door sensors work good, the sticky pads provided for the motions are kind of crappy, but you can mount them with small screws.  I also talked to ADT and Bay Alarm, but decided to go with Frontpoint.

Hey I have frontpoint as well , I really liked the whole DIY aspect of it and being able to add things when I wanted to, thus far I give them two thumbs way up . Support is really good from them as well , everyone I have talked to so far is honestly very friendly. Good luck and honestly if you go with frontpoint I don't think you will be disappointed what so ever, if you have any questions about the system let me know I've had mine for a little over a year now.

I was getting ready to post the same question OP. Similar circumstance with being a renter and also not having a land line at the house like a lot of people these days.

I really liked the guy I spoke with at Frontpoint and the online reviews are incredible for the company. The equipment, while you do own it, is heavily subsidised like smart phones are with a long contract. In order to get the "good" price it's a three year contract for monitoring services which isn't terrible.

Also found a company called SimpliSafe that has the same design (cell phone based and all wireless). The difference is the equipment isn't subsidized and the monitoring plans have no contract and are about half the price of Frontpoint. They charge $14.99 and $19.99 per month depending on the package.

I haven't made up my mind but with all of the burglary threads in GD I'm doing something before the weekend is out.

Edit To Add: The sandwich maker reminded me that the guy at FrontPoint said that within the year they will have wireless exterior cameras that use your router to upload motion activated images to the "cloud".......those kind of options may sell me on FrontPoint even if it's more expensive.
