I have been looking at systems for some time. Heres what I want. I need simple surveillance, with cameras that I can watch over the internet. That part is fairly easy. I also would like a couple  of motion detectors that call, or email me when motion is detected. I have no land line, but can add a line to my cell phone plan. So the alert has to come via cell phone. Any ideas? Would this require a monthly fee? Please help as I am at my wits end.

I replied in the other thread but will paste here too...

Yes, the Lorex system will send you an alert (email) upon motion if you set this mode. It will send to anymail address. I have mine set up to email to [email protected], my Droid X, then, I can look at my cameras to see whats up. The Lorex app is a download from the app store (now playstore).
You can also see your cameras on a PC/Laptop with internet connection (port forwarding). Lorex offers a free DDNS set up for you to obtain an address.

No monthly fee. You are the monitor of your system.

You'll want to set up each camera with an "alert" zone if they are outside...this helps prevent stuff like shadows and trees from trippng the alarm. Really easy to do.
Still setting it up now but really clear instructions.

Upon doing more research, this is what I would like. A motion detector that can send a sms text, and just needs a sim card to work. Then I can buy a pay as you go phone and put the sim card in the motion detector. Could you guys recomend a specific company that can do this. Not sure why but when I search this, I get hits of companys in the UK.

glmf40...

I think I misunderstood the need for your system.
Mine is set up through my internet/router connection. I have an ethernet cable from my DVR to my router.
I think your looking for some other kind of output from the DVR? I'm not much help there but I too got a bunch of UK sites when I was serching for systems...

Good luck.
