I"m looking to secure a small safe in an apartment for some important things to include the following:
$2000 in cash my watches when I'm out of town for an extended amount of time passports other jewelry a handgun. I'mve been looking at the 1.5cu ft models and I'm pretty much sold on something that size. I usually keep this stuff in my gun safe, but that will not be moving to the apartment at this time. Any advice on how to store my smaller safe without it walking away? Also, I'm in the process of obtaining my first NFA item. I'm going to store the orignal trust, and forms somewhere long term with no need to access them. Should I use a small suticase fire safe or would you recommend something like a safe deposit box. I don't need to get to these in any semblence of a hurry. I'll also have copies of this type of stuff. Thanks in advance. |

In an apartment just hide it. I used to have a little false wall in one closet. It's amazing what you can do with drywall, paint, and enough time. Behind the wall I had a variety of locking containers and an lightweight el- cheapo RSC type safe.
On the front of the wall I hung a non-functional Mosin (with bayonet!) I always have a couple safe deposit boxes at large banks. That's where I'd keep my original paperwork if I were you. There really is no such thing as a fireproof safe. Just about any large structure fire will cook everything to way past well done... |
