What are some good models. Both wired and wireless. Difficulty of installation. I live in the burbs and think a whole surveilance system would be overkill and I have dogs. I just want to know who is at the door without going to the door.

I was thinking about something like this with a hidden camera setup, but I cannot find anything to my liking.

Aiphone makes a nice hardwire setup, easy to install and easy to use. Not all models save the video clips.
