So I finally purchased a new safe (RSC) and had a question about placement. The safe is a Liberty Fatboy (880 lbs) and I wanted to put it in my gun room which has a crawl space below it.
I basically want to know if this will be too heavy to rest on the floor without extra support underneath it? I think the wide footprint of the safe will have an advantage but I really dont want problems down the road with this thing. Also any suggestions for bolting it down to the carpet/wood will be helpful. Thanks... |

Thanks for the suggestion...I have also thought about some concrete blocks w/ 4x4s...basically building a small subframe directly under the safe location. This would seem more permanent to me but I'm also not in construction.
If it helps I do have about a 1200lb fishtank in my house but that is next to a load bearing wall which obviously makes a huge difference. I may put some extra support under this as well since I will already be crawling around down there...
Also would it be a good idea to put a rubber mat or carpet under the safe for moisture control or whatever other reason...The safe is going in a carpeted room. |

At that weight you wont have to worry about where you place it on a ground floor. Even with a 3' high crawl space underneath? I just want to ensure there isn't going to be any long term damage to the floor in terms of sagging or splitting underneath. Also should I just bolt through the carpet and into the flooring underneath? |
