I just purchased a safe that weighs 880# and need to move it inside via my patio door. The thresh hold is about 3.5" above the patio level. I was thinking of using PCV pipe for rollers. I normal PCV from lowes or home depot strong enough to support the 880# ?

Also I thought I read a thread on here that discussed moving a safe using PCV, but cannot find it. A link to that thread would be helpful.

Thanks for any advice. Jay

I guess it depends on the thickness of the pipe wall and how many pieces you are planning on using. Black iron pipe would of course be stronger. I have also seen people use a bunch of golf balls to move a safe around.

As long as you have the weight of the safe supported with multiple pipes I would think you could use any regular sized PVC pipe (I would not go for the very thin walled drainage pipe).

Moving a safe with pipe is very easy.  Cut several pipes a couple inches longer than your save is wide.  Tilt the safe and slide a pipe or two under it.  Repeat until you get the safe fully on the pipes and roll away.  As your pipes come out the back in feed them under the front end.

Good luck and watch you toes.

I used 1/2 inch. cpvc to move mine no problem you may want to put cardboard down to protect floor covering if needed good luck.

Haven't tried it myself, but I've heard that Golf balls work well.

This is exactly how I have moved mine. IIRC, it was 1" pipe.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Since the safe needs to clear the 3.5" thresh hold I am going to use 2 furniture dollies on the patio and golf balls as soon as I am inside. The patio and basement floor (walkout basement) are both concrete. Stepson and 3 of his buddies will provide the muscle.

My safe just got delivered and it weighs the same as yours,  two guys with moving straps and a 4 wheel dolly installed it in my house.
