How do most of you do this? how do you keep it secure but quickly accessable? also do you put it in the safe when you wake up?
ive been keeping it in the bedside table at night and putting in the safe when i wake up but im just wondering what everyone else does, or doesnt do.

I live alone, too.

Charter Arms .44 Special Bulldog in the dresser drawer within arm's reach of the bed.  A Surefire G3 is there with it.  Mossberg 590 (unloaded) with 5 slugs in the butt cuff and 6 Federal Tac 9 pellet buck in the side saddle are in the steel cabinet nearby, locked, but pretty much ready for use.  Nothing else is immediately ready, but a lot more is available given varying amounts of time.  Ideally, I guess I should lock the revolver up each morning when I leave for work.  I wouldn't want to face someone pointing that thing in my direction upon returning home, but.........imperfect universe and all that

12 gauge loaded with 9 rounds of single 0 buck goes in the safe in the morning... comes out when home for the night.
Carry gun goes on me as I depart in the morning and goes into safe when I go to bed.

I have no rugrats to worry about but I really don't want to come home and have a shootout with a thief using my own gun.

This brings up another question... Do most people keep there shot guns unloaded with ammo in the side saddle or loaded and chambered or just shells in the tube but not chambered. I used to keep min with slugs in the tube and buck shot in the side saddle and the pump locked so you cant pump it without pressing the lever. Its muscle memory for me but most people just get confused when it wont pump.  recently Ive started questioning this or even if i need the shotgun and mabey my XD.45 is good enough.

if you have a child, depends how you raise the child.  My childern will never touch one of my guns unless I give them permission.  They see them so much, they do not care to touch them (plus the spanking also deters them).

I really don't have one round in the chamber.  like my springfield XD, hard as heck to rack a round.  So thats the best safety.

I hate the dreams that you wake up from the dream to just waking up from that dream, and someone breaking in, and you cannot move then you wake up from that dream and you grab the gun but then the trigger is stuck and you freak out then you wake up from that dream.

New method I use to keep it in a serpa holster behind the monitor. Then I got this free shitty "humidor" and it fits my HK perfectly

One minor issue is that if you wake up with someone standing over you, they may be in the way of the drawer opening up and you'll be screwed.

I do agree having the gun just laying there isn't a great idea though.  Maybe rig a removable holster on the side of your nightstand/bed frame to hold it out of the way but accessible?

I have a holster bolted to the side of my night stand facing my bed. It's bolted about 8 inches below the top of the mattress,

Tube full, chamber empty, sidesaddle full, trigger pulled so just grab it and pump.

The firepower of a 12 guage is vastly greater than a XD 45. I am almost sure there is no such thing as too much firepower when something absolutely, posatively has to be incapacitated.

well thats why I keep bouncing around with it, but I keep the drawer cracked open so I can reach inside but its still hidden as a compromise. I did think about screwing my serpa holster to the side of the beds bottom rail but then I cant mount the light.
Also if you wake up with someone standing over you and they’re too close to open the draw they’re too close to grab it off the top and too close for you to do anything either way so your f***ed. One other plus is if your a female or your wife or girlfriend is there alone, if its a rapist and the weapons visible they’re screwed but if some guys on top of them they can try to reach in the drawer and stop it all right there. Just a thought since my wife may have to be home alone.

I keep a Gunvault Mcrovault under my bed attached to the frame by its cable. I'd rather have it bolted somewhere, but how it is right now you can't see the cable around the frame but I can reach down and pull on it and slide the box out from under my bed. It holds my 16+1 XD9 and two spare 16s. Decently fast and I much prefer the top opening than the front opening.

My 870 is on the second floor in the safe with 5 in the tube, chamber empty and four more in the sidesaddle, all Federal Reduced Recoil OO Buck. I keep the tube one round short to reduce spring pressure, but I keep two rounds on top of the safe so when I rack it I can top it off, assuming I have that time of course. Which I think I should if I've had the time to either A) empty 49rds of 9mm or B) have the advanced warning to get in the safe.

My .40 M&P daily carry  goes into the night table draw right next to my bed every night.

In the morning; it goes back into its holster and onto my hip.

Some people prefer to leave their carry pieces in their holster overnight; I don't.

If we're expecting a storm or there are some criminal scumbags reported in the vicinity; an AR comes out of the safe and stands against the wall a few feet from my side of the bed and an M&P 9c comes out of the safe and goes into my wife's night table drawer.

There are no children living at our house.

Bedside gun is on the nightstand chambered, ready to go (besides being on SAFE) at night, goes back into the safe in the morning.

I am not worried about someone surprising me in the middle of the night cause my GSD sleeps right outside the bedroom door. He is very protective of his home, almost in a possessive way. It would just be the barking that would scare the s&*t out of me initially.

ETA: No children in the house, so no worry of a child getting a hold of my gun.

If you are talking about mine, it's a Phoenix USA/GunLocker brand and the model is called "RifleLocker."

Maybe I should say "was" as I just tried to go to their website and post you a link, but it wasn't there... just a static message with a phone number. I wonder if they went out of business?

If so, that's a shame –– it is a quality product (albeit a bit pricey).  But I believe there are other similar in-wall lockers/safes out there.  I know there are some cheap ones (Homak?) that are thinner and have a key-lock instead of the pad, but I have no experience with those.

Bedside gun is a model 10 S&W, 38spl. I load with standard pressure Federal Hydra-shocks with two HK speed loaders with +P Hydra-shocks. While some may laugh and say this not enough, I say it is a good compromise for both me and my wife. She is basically "gun," challenged and refuses to put the time into more then a couple of cylinders per shooting session. It is always ready, no safety to release and about as fool proof as it gets. The 38spl, has certainly put a lot of folks underground and I would rather get two or three of the Hydra-shocks into the upper main torso then 13 to 16 rounds that remain in the magazine since you can't get it into action.

In addition, within  reach from my bed, stands an old Remington 870 Wing-master 12 gauge, with the old Remington factory rifle sighted slug barrel. It sits with a mixed load in the tube. The first two rounds up are Federal reduced load OO buck, then standard slugs. I keep the safety off, fired with the action closed. There is a butt cuff with 3 more OO buck and 3 more slugs. I keep an extra reduced load OO buck beneath a wide rubber band around the grip.

Just something which works for me. I also would not want to use any firearm for self defense that I would not mind never getting back from the police investigating the shooting.

I use a "Night Sentry" from Diamond Sentry Distributors (who may be out of biz). I think there's something similar called a "Pillow Pal".

Handy as hell- a long flap slides between mattress and box to secure things, then at a right angle hanging alongside the box there's a rail where you can hang any belt accessory (holster, mag holder, flashlight holder, etc.). I just have a holstered XD and a Streamlight hanging- that oughta help get me to anything else I may need (which isn't far away, but not accessible when lying down in bed).

If I'm in bed with covers turned down, it's in a perfect position and easily and openly accessible to me, but at an awkward angle for a BG. If I left my hand fall off the side of the bed, it'll fall right at the gun.

During the day with the bed made, the whole rig is nicely covered up, might not be seen by someone rifling the nightstand in vain.

I have kids to worry about.  I have a Gun Vault bolted in my nightstand with my PX4, 2 extra magazines, and a Surefire.
PX4 is loaded, round in the chamber, and on safe.

Cheap 10-gun Sentry Safe is in my closet, with the Mossberg 590 and one of my AR-15s, both loaded, but no round in the chamber.

The key for the Sentry Safe is hanging on a hook on the inside door of the Gun Vault.  It's the best compromise to keep my kids safe(who haven't gotten the full firearm education yet, we're working on it) and give me access to more firepower if necessary.

I run the drill every once in awhile and can be armed with the 590 in under ten seconds.
