BOLT DOWN YOUR FN SAFES........

Went home over the summer and dad was sporting a new Safe/Cabinet.  Nothing special but it was not bolted down.   Dad you need to bolt this down.  I know I'll get to it.  Well yesterday afternoon it disappeared with about 7 pistols and 6 rifles, along with many other things in his house.   My Inheritance.   So people bolt down your safes. Please.

I love it when people buy a safe and say they dont need to bolt it down because it will be hard enough to get it out of the house, then I get to hear a story like this. REDEMPTION!

Sorry to hear about what happened.

Snop,  Could not agree more,  I think it weighed with the guns around 600lbs,  My dad sent me pics his Hard wood floor is fd up from them trying to drag it out,  then the realized they were going to need a car or something because there were drag marks through the garage to the driveway.

Thanks for the reminder.  I have a new safe being delivered this week, and contemplated not bolting it down because it will be about 700 lbs and on the second floor, especially since we also have an alarm system.  But when they don't care what they do to your house, it's probably amazing what someone can accomplish in the minutes before the alarm goes off and the police respond.

Second floor?  Awesome for the burgular; just push it down the stairs or off any sort of balcony or overlook.  Good chance it'll pop open if it's a cheapie.  Yeah, bolt it down, always!

OP,  be sure to distribute the weight load of the safe across several of the joist or it could damage your floor and floor joist.

Something that holds 13 guns doesn't have to have much attention paid to having the supporting joist under it. It isn't heavy enough to be a concern on a ground floor or a second story.
