When you put the safe in an area where there is carpet, how is the best way to lay the carpet back down after trimming the carpet for the safe? Has anyone got a pic of how they did it? I dont really want frazzled edged carpet around it.

Thanks

I know allot of people just put it down over the carpet then bolt it to the slab or studs.

Reason for wanting carpet trimmed?

Just use screws that are 1/2"-1" longer than normal and screw through the carpet.

I am thinking if it isnt directly on the slab, it could be pried up and carried out. It may not make a difference. I was just thinking that. Im not dead set on doing it that way. Just looking for good ideas to consider

If you use some 3/8" to 1/2" fastners.....and load the safe........that carpet is going to be FLAT!

concrete is better.....but if your on wood....try to hit joist.....or use plate washers and "nyloc" nuts.

You also may want to seriously consider locating your safe tightly in a corner before you bolt it down...it doesn't have to be a concrete wall, but it will make it a bitch for someone to pry it out.

I'm putting it in my master walk in closet. The side of the safe that the door opens from, will be near a wall. That's very good advice. The closet is 6 ft wide and 15ft long. I have given serious thought to making this closet more into a panic room of sort. Putting in a better door and a lockable door knob so that it could only be locked on the inside. Mostly for my wife, when I'm not home. I have a small child and now I'm giving it more, and more thought.

I'd put the safe in place, take a razor knife, and run it along the base of the safe. You could trim the bottom of the safe with some quarter round if the carpet frays bad. I think this is what you are asking?

I was going to say just bolt it through the carpet but then I thought about this...

If in the corner or allong a wall, the safe would be sitting on the tack strip, thus it might not bolt down flat, since the tack strip won't compress while the carpet/pad will.
Is this an issue?
