Hi All,
Im looking at a Sturdy Safe Model 4824-6 (48" x 24" x 72"). These things seem to be built like tanks. With fireproofing, I think Im looking at $3000. Any thoughts on this safe? I looked at Liberty as well, but besides the Sturdy appearing to be built quite solid, most of the Liberty larger safes are 30.5" wide which wont fit through a 30" door. I dont want to have to cut down a door frame to get a safe in. Any thoughts on the Sturdy? |

Go bigger... I bought the 6028-6, the biggest one. I paid about $3800 shipped, which seemed insane, but I will own it for the rest of my life. I haven't filled it with guns completely, but it's amazing.
It was honestly one of the best purchases I've ever made. The quality is fantastic. Even with the ridiculously wide door, there are no uneven gaps or anything. I am very rarely at my house, and often on week or several month long trips away from home. It holds everything from my ammo, computers, ~20 long guns and ~10 handguns, at least a dozen bottles of scotch, all my documents and prescription drugs. Anyone who sees it comments how massive the thing is. The price difference delivered isn't enough to not order the biggest one. If I did it again, I'd have them custom build it a bit deeper, because it just seems too shallow once you get the fire proofing. I expect to move within a year... I dread moving it again. ETA: Get it pierced for a dehumidifier and have them drill it for bolt holes. It probably weighs 2500lbs with all my junk in it, but I still bolted it down. |

AMSEC's BF line and Sturdy Safe are my two favorite RSC's. Hard to go wrong with either of them. I do prefer the Amsec a little over Sturdy, but they are a little more expensive. You'd be looking at ~$3,600.00-6,070.00 for the same size AMSEC (Former being the "internet price", latter being retail".
You mentioned only $3000 for that safe? Is that what they quoted you? The safe is (from my 2008 price sheet) $2226+$126-$147 (shelves) + $777 (fire)= $3129 before tax and shipping. Call for a shipping quote. When I quoted mine, I got a good deal on the shipping because I said I could have it shipped to my business that had a dock and forklift. Don't know what state you're in, but shipping a 1250lb safe from California won't be cheap. |
