I'm looking to buy a safe in the next few months. Here are my requirements (or lack of them):
-I only need room for four rifles (no pistol grips and only one scope) and a few pistols. I understand the sentiment to "buy the biggest safe you can afford" but I don't expect my collection to grow beyond this. -There is no chance of flood damage. -I want it to be small enough to be able to easily get it into a bedroom. -I don't live in a high-crime area. A burglary is unlikely and there is someone home almost all the time. I want to protect my guns from a "smash and grab" and don't expect the safe to hold out indefinitely. -I am not really picky about fire protection, relockers, and hinge-style, but I would prefer a reliable mechanical dial to a digital lock. -I am looking to spend from $500 to $1,000. I don't want junk but I don't need a behemoth. There are many Sam's Clubs, Wal Marts, Costcos, Sportsman's Warehouses, and also a Bass Pro/Outdoor World and Cabela's in my area, so I believe I will purchase it from one of those places. Is delivery usually free or reasonably cheap (less than $100)? Will they just drop it off or will they put it where I want it within the house? Is it customary to try to talk them down on prices at these stores? I live in a large metro area with over 3 million people. Are there usually dedicated safe dealers as well as these stores? Bass Pro and Cabela's safes seem a little overpriced. Thanks. |

There isn't much on the market which will hold under twice that based on your criteria. You are G2G with anything here. -There is no chance of flood damage. No need for a seal then -I want it to be small enough to be able to easily get it into a bedroom. should be easy based on your size requirements -I don't live in a high-crime area. A burglary is unlikely and there is someone home almost all the time. I want to protect my guns from a "smash and grab" and don't expect the safe to hold out indefinitely. A 12 gauge RSC can be punctured with a fire axe. A 10 gauge with the pick end of same axe. You are looking at 12 gauge in your price range. -I am not really picky about fire protection, relockers, and hinge-style, but I would prefer a reliable mechanical dial to a digital lock. won't be a problem in your price range -I am looking to spend from $500 to $1,000.
