Toothdoc,
I just ordered the same door. Can you share details on how you installed the AMSEC door? Mine arrives in 4 weeks. Thank you -

13 grey gallow tech panels and associated hardware got delivered Friday. Gotta get my framing up before I hang any of it. Too many projects...

9 panels will be together in a 6 x 9 panel on the main wall, and the other 4 will run horizontally behind a 12 foot workbench as a backsplash between bench top and cabinets with various bins for parts etc.

I may do a 12 panel wall and order a few more. I have it planned out to allow me to panel the entire 20 foot wall eventually if I want.

First it's going to arrive by freight have at least 4 other people there to help you open and move it inside. First a wood frame was built to support it then we set it in and built more around it basically bulked everything up. Then I reinforced everything the metal mesh that others have talked about on here. It really wasn't that hard if not for the weight and just getting it to your destination. Not a lot of details as I didn't do much of it my framer did it but I helped a bit. I've got a few pictures let me pm them to you tomorrow.

That's going to be sweet! I'm very jealous that you're getting your Gallow done. Still don't have mine.

Call Brent, have him quote you up an order, and send him your CC. Done.

I rec'd tech drawings which shows the door is to removed from the hinges. Then install the 2 part frame, then replace the door. How is the frame attached to the doorway? In my case, I've got concrete filled block walls and a steel lintel over head. I followed the rough dimensions perfectly 35 1/2 wide by 79 1/2 tall. Looking forward to the project.

Thanks for any tips -

If it's like just about every door out there, the frame "clamps" onto the wall.

Brent and I are actually pretty good friends. Guy is a stud. Just waiting for the right time. I'll swing by his shop to pick it up when I finally get around to it.

Did you have any concerns about the weight on your slab? How thick was it?
Very nice room btw.

My dad didn't want to post them under his account because people might know where it is, so he said I could create an account and post these pics.

We have (HAD) a very large garage - It has a 2 car garage door, but runs down the entire length of the house and is the size of a 5 car garage.

The area we chose to build the vault was in a corner that had a fridge, bikes, a huge 4 person Sea-Doo, and a LOT of shelves.

I can't find any pictures of it prior to removing all of that stuff, but here is one of the area all cleaned out:

http://i.imgur.com/ViABj3D.jpg

First we had to move all the stuff and pull down all the shelving, then we had to re-route the icemaker line and the outlet for the fridge on that back wall - You can see the wire and pipe coming out of the bottom right.

There was an outlet on the side wall that we capped off, and an intercom and speaker volume switch on the wall where the fridge was that had to be moved too.

Thanks!
I'm not sure how thick the slab is, but there is no sign of cracking or anything, and there are many cars parked on it as well as huge shop tools, so I don't think it's going to be an issue.

Well... Me and my wife have decided we will be building a home in about 3 more years. With that being said I have set aside a budget for the gun room of my dreams and I have been creating different designs and blueprints using computer programs and apps. This is what I have so far. Any constructive criticism and advice is more than welcome.

Basement:

Entrance: (The spiral staircase you see is a second entrance that will come from the master bedroom closet)

What you see here will be the actual vault door:

This is a small entry way that will house "grab & go" gear for if I need to get out of dodge. (Rifle, vest, backpack)

And here's the gun room!:

This will be a storage rack for firearms. They will be exposed and stood upright for easy access:

This is the tool/cleaning equipment storage area:

Then my desk:

This is the work station where I will do most of my cleaning, building, and modifying. The drawers and cabnets will house spare parts, magazines, optics, slings, and almost anything else you can think of:

And then finally my storage closet where I will store ammo, water, food, survival gear, clothes, range gear, targets, chest rigs, and just about anything else you can think of:

This will be a storage rack for firearms. They will be exposed and stood upright for easy access:
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag107/yearoger27/b85a97466c1f93fa48e034e0ee60fab0_zpse62c8cl0.jpg

I've seen some gun rooms with windows in them. What are you guys suing to secure the windows as a possible access point?

About as far as they got the first day. All tubes eventually filled with concrete - more on that later.

Don't have a picture, but if anyone is looking for gun display wall and doesn't want to pay gallowtech, look up wall control. Good metal pegboard. I have no affiliation.

I just put up 8 of the Wall Control panels for the pistol racks. The panels themselves are good stuff, and I second the recommendation.
I do not recommend their hooks for pistols, however, and would hesitate to use them for rifles. They are certainly strong enough, but are thin stamped steel with a thin coating of paint. I can easily see them scratching firearm finishes unless one were to put heat shrink tubing or plastidip on the hooks.
I used the nylon hooks from Talon; they are a better "fit" for pistols, IMO.

Wall Control
Talon hooks
The C12 hooks are just about perfect for full-size pistols; the G04 hooks for the mouseguns (LCP, etc.) that will just hang by the trigger guard.

mine look like that and they've been fired plenty. some people like to take care of their stuff and don't throw them in piles of dirt between range sessions

I dip'd my rifle hooks in plastidip, and for pistols I use rare earth magnets with shrink wrap on them. Works great.

Have you considered one of the various hidden shelves or bookcase units to conceal the door?

Your setup is similar to mine, and having a hidden door to the whole things adds a great extra layer of security.

Lined the walls with steel mesh and need atleast a steel door but if someone really wants to get in they can just bust the actual stairs up.

My Pew Pew Palace. When we moved in the carpet was already a disaster. Planning on putting in laminate but not looking forward to moving everything out to do it!

They look nice. Some of my hunting guns and cheaper guns I don't really care if I scratch them... But even when I try, with say a decent looking 1911, I manage to scratch or wear the finish. I guess I'm just a clutz or hard on things or something.

It wasn't meant as an attempt at an insult.

So im having quotes done to erect two concrete block walls in conjunction with two foundation walls in our basement, my question is what are people using for a "hardened" ceiling? I wont be going the poured concrete path but block walls backfilled with concrete and rebar, with the rebar drilled in the basement floor. I was thinking maybe angle iron attached to the walls which will allow me to possibly use steel for the ceiling but Im not sure as of yet.

Do it out of concrete.

Go to the main floor, pull the carpet or flooring back, remove the floor board and pour you concrete mix from above if you can't get in from the sides.

Not an option for me. We have hard wood flooring above where the gun room will be and if I tear it up to do that I'll be in divorce court

Honey, I'm refinishing the floors and getting this squeak out of the floor.

Suggest the idea of darker floors or a different wood floor, let her be the one who suggests the idea of replacing or refinishing so it's her idea.

It's amazing what a couple of 18-20 hour weekends do for progress. Next up is to get the guns back on the wall and get the bench finished up. Shelving after that.
