Many folks have a few 'safe queens' that rarely get taken out. Short of Cosmoline, and since we all can't afford a climate-controlled vault, what's a good recipe for proper storage?

I'm thinkin a GoldenRod, maybe one of the impregnated gun socks (name escapes me at the moment) and a long-term anti-rust preservative, of which Eezox loooks like the best out there.

Also FWIW, I put an insulating barrier between the safe and concrete floor. My thinking is this: If I have the safe right on the (thermally conductive and usually colder) concrete, that it will keep the safe slightly cooler than surrounding environment, leading to condensation issues. The thermal barrier (carpet, blueboard) permits the safe to stay more or less at room temperature, avoiding the condensation issues.

Any other ideas?

Try "Bore-Stores" silicone impregnated gun socks with Velcro closures; available at Midway and very cheap.

For regular storage I use CLP; but for very long term storage I've had really great results with G 96.

I've been using the same can of G 96 for about 35 years and have never had any rust at all on a treated gun.
