Heading out to buy a 556 classic. How can I tell if the weapon is a version  1 or 2?
The place I'm buying from, has been the main dealer in the area for Sigs, but I can't imagine he sells that many.
I just would like to buy a newly made 556 and not one that's been in his stock for 5 years.
I looked at one there the other day ,and I did not have the adjustable stock , and it had a Sig red dot , and no sights.
Thanks for the info.

If it has the swiss style folder, and not a collapsible, you're golden. You can also look at the build date on the box before buying. Nobody calls them "version 1 or "version 2"  so expect dump looks if you speak of it out loud.

thanks for the info. I went ahead and bought it yesterday. It was made in 2009 and has a collapsible stock. It has no rear sight except for a sig red dot . I'm looking forward to firing it.

Does it have three or four bolts holding the top rail on, and does it have the little flip up "popsicle" sight on the rail?

3 screws holding the rail, no rear sight at all, except for the red dot.

They are the SIG 556 ER (early release) and the 556 Classic (Swiss stock).

There should be a little flip up rear sight build into the rail. It is pretty easy to miss.
