I've got the hots for an AR pattern .308.  The SIG 716 and Colt LE901 are at the top of my list.  The SIG has the advantge of being available now at decent prices.

There is a gent on YouTube who has posted videos of SIG 716 failures to function, warning consumers to stay away.  One video supposedly shows 3 different SIG 716s. None of them will function.  It looks like they short cycle and do not pick up the next round in the mag.  He does say he tried different gas settings.  He doesn't say if he trys to resolve any issues with SIG.

I admit I take his videos with a huge grain of salt.  It seems like he has an agenda.

Anybody here having issues with SIG 716 reliability or functioning?

That guy either has the worst luck of any gun-buyer on the planet, or he has an agenda and hates Sig Sauer.  He has uploaded multiple vidoes lamenting Sig rifles.  I notice he tells us nothing about his ammo or the gas settings he is using (and they are all piston guns).

It seems that other people - ones without an agenda - are having good luck with their rifles.  They are well regarded on Sig Forum - and the folks on Sig Forum don't hold back is there is an issue with their Sigs. It's even gotten a good review by a user on the M4CarbineCircleJerk forum.  And they are unabashed Sig-haters.

That guys a bull shit artist. I have one and two friends I shoot with have one as well. We have all fired 300 rnds or more with ours and all have been  100% with all types of ammo. I've used my own handloads, Radway Green 7.62X51mm, Gold medal match while my fellow SIg 716 owners have used the same plus some Silver bear steel cased. All have functioned perfectly and all three are very accurate. Others here that have purchased Sig 716s have commented that they have no problems with them. That guys full of it. I have Armalites (4), Rock River LAR 308's (2) , M1A's and FAL's and the Sig is my favorite.

I have a friend that has a 716 and it runs like a top. The problem with that guys review is that it's a sample of one. The guy does not reveal what ammo he's using, the gas settings, the internals of the rifle*, or the magazines. I have great pause looking at AR-10s in general due to the horrible AR-10s I've had in the past. The 716 maybe a winner and I'm going to try one.

I had a DPMS that shit the bed after 1000rds and would not run right. I had two Armalites that would not run right unless I used premium off the shelf ammo. MY buddy tried some Radway Green in his 716 and t ran fine which those other AR-10s would not do.

*He did show the hammer spring and blamed the malfs on it. He said it was too powerful (?) and slowed the bolt down. Which is utter bullshit because all Sigs are using the same spring. He stated Sig could not reproduce his results which tells me he was using jacked up ammo and the wrong gas setting.

I went back to Youtube and took a closer look at this guy.  I counted over 20 anti-Sig videos.  He clearly has an agenda.

I have put about 200 rounds through mine with 0 malfunctions/misfeeds. No adjustments to gas setting.

I can reliably say after handling one 30 minutes ago at the LGS; WANT!!!

Solid piece of gear, Trigger was ok, but standard features are making me do a "what can I sell" sort of thing right now.

Just returned from the range with my new 716 and couldn't be happier. Please note that it's been over 20 years since I have shot a rifle of any sorts and after some time expect a little tight grouping. 7 lbs is to much on the trigger and I will be in search of a replacement asap. I shot 100 rounds and didn't have any problems with FTF, until I loaded up with Federal Power-Shok 180 grain. It would extract the spent case, but wouldn't chamber the next round. Once I went back to the 150 grain Remington, life was good. Anyone have suggestions, please feel free to educate me!

The first rounds were in the lower left quadrant of the target area, with the splatter target receiving the rest of the clip after adjustments were made. 50 yards...

The power shock bullets won't feed reliably in any semi auto.

Is anyone still following this thread?

I have been running my 716 with WOLF and Barnaul and it hasn't missed a beat. I just ordered some ASC magazines to see how they work.

Overall, I am impressed with the rifle. It isn't priced too much higher than some DI bigbore AR's and it is cheaper than the other piston designs.

I'm following it (and other threads), primarily to see how the 716 does with surplus ammo. How many rounds of Russian ammo do you figure you've shot through yours?

I've kind of lost track since I've fired several different brands/types but I'd guess I've got probably 150-200 rounds of both brands fired.

Same here, so far it seems to be the best priced quality piston AR10 style rifle out there right now.

I say this honestly––not because I have one.

There is currently nothing I'm aware of on the market that equals the SIG in features for money spent.

Mine has been utterly reliable, and more accurate than I expected.

The only malfunctions I have had with it was a  couple of rounds of old South African Surplus ammo that didn't feed. Mag wasn't fully seated. My fault. And I had a few of my reloads that weren't resized properly and wouldn't chamber. Again my fault. Other than that it has not had any malfunctions of any kind.

Not related to reliability but has anyone found a load that their rifle Really likes?

165gr Nosier over BLC2  5 rounds in 1.02MOA  three times in a row. Midway had some on sale a month ago under blemished bullets. Bouht 10 bos and not one so far was blimished.

One of my first loads for the 716 so far, but I have gotten pretty good groups with Hornady 150gr FMJ/BY with cannelure over 44grains of IMR 8208XBR seated to mid cannelure.

I love mine, I've ran mostly south African surplus through it with no problems, I have also shot some black hills 175gr OTM with no problems.

I just picked mine up about 2 hours ago.  It is built very nicely.  So far my only complaint is the stupid ass sling they give you with it.  I guess I will have to order another Vtac sling.. I am going to shoot it next week.

You don't have to use that sling, but hey, they gave it to you! . I haven't messed with slings or other accessories, just shot it off a rest and enjoyed the crap out of the experience.  Now that the weather no longer tries to kill me, I'm going to find some time (during the week when the range isn't busy) to further develop the deep, personal relationship one needs with such a rifle.

I'm glad to see that others have had good experience with Barnaul and Wolf ammunition in the 716.  There's an Academy Sports store just a few miles from my house, and their "Monarch Steel" brand is manufactured by Barnaul.  (I've also gotten myself set up to reload Berdan brass, pretty much everything but the primers at the moment, but I have a source for them.)

GOing to look at one today.. I sold my DPMS SASS.. GOing to be eaiser to start over vs trying to reduce the weight.. Never had one single issue with the DPMS.. In fact was sub MOA with black hills ammo, handloads are even better.. nothing to complain about.. Weight deal well my fault I should not have bought that rifle.. Thought I would like it but too heavy to hunt with or any extended carry time.

I love my sig but if you sold your DPMS because of the weight you will not like the sig 716. Great weapon, functions flawlessly (once you clean it the first time), but it is heavy. Add an optic and a SS can and you will no longer need to have a gym membership cause hauling that plus ammo around will give you a nice work out.

First thing I did was put a Geissele SSAE (I change every AR with a G so why not the big bore?)

Big difference

Bought my 716 yesterday, took it home and gave it a good cleaning. Ran a CLP soaked bronze brush through the bore 3 of 4 times and then a CLP soaked patch. I have never seen such a dirty black patch come out of any barrel. The must have test fired it and never looked at it again. The patch was dripping so much black carbon, one pass in one directions is all I could do and had to change patches. The rest of the gun had a heavy sticky oily residue that needed to be cleaned. Once it was clean, it looked superb. Put 40 rnds through it this morning and not one sigh of any hickups. Initial sighting was 1/2 " right, 1 1/2 " low at 25 yds with BUIS. The rifle definitely needs a Geissle SSA or S3G trigger. After that optics and then I'm all set. This is one of the  best out of box guns that I have ever, purchased or made. Now just need to get some surplus GI ammo and put some rounds down range.

I have around 150 rds. through mine. I love it so far, accurate and easy to shoot.  I have a Burris 1-4 XTR mounted on it.

I have had my 716 for a while and have fired about 150 rounds or so through it.  I didn't clean after shooting last for a while (bad me) and cleaned it on Sunday.  Being aware of this thread, I looked for abnormal wear.  I saw none.  I had the original trigger replaced by an SSA.  It's amazing!!
