Well, picked up my Sig 516 a while ago and finally got a chance to go to the range the other day and blast away.
Fired roughly 500-600 rounds just to get a feel for it and see if there's anything wrong (and zeroed in my PA mini red dot).
Used the following rounds : Wolf steel cased, Golden Bear (brass coated steel), Lake City, American Eagle (walmart black box).
Magazines were a mix of Tapco, Troy, Magpul, and regular GI mags.

Ammo: Everything worked flawlessly, EXCEPT for AE. I had two really bad jams with AE ammo - bent rounds getting stuck in the chamber (in a cold gun)! Not sure what the issue was, every round looked straight before...staying away for now. I'm assuming a bad lot?
Mags: 1 Magpul has a bad spring, all fit good, but I'd say the best fit is the cheapo Tapco mags and the regular steel GI mags.

My buffer has visible rings on it from the bolt hitting it - but nothing visible on the bolt itself. I'll attribute it to it being new and broken in, but will definitely keep an eye on it as I shoot it more.

All in all I'm happy, it worked flawlessly with the cheapest steel cased ammo out there which is a big plus.
Towards the end we got it really really hot and it was still firing flawlessly.

Nice! I've been waiting for a range report on this. One question, how dirty did the firing chamber get? My Sig556 doesn't get very dirty at all  even after running that many rounds? I'm sure it's far easier to clean than the DI AR15 platform.

The first time I fired my 516 for 300 rounds it looked like I had never fired it atall. The inside was clean and teh lube still white.

StoneAR10,
Thanks for the info. What's a good price on one of these?

my was $1300 with the sig red dot ( which broke before it made it to the range )
I'll take some pics tomorrow when I pull the gun out - I haven't cleaned it yet at all.

That's great to hear! The only thing I would do after shooting cheap steel is clean the chrome-lined barrel, but I'm guilty of wanting to push the limits on my 516 also.

sorry for the delay, here's two pictures of the chamber that I took today:

doesn't look half bad for firing 500+ various, mostly budget rounds.
Mostly dust particles, and some lint off of the white shirt it's been wrapped in.
It's been a while, but when I was in the military, I don't remember my chamber being remotely as clean after a range qual day.
Granted, this is a brand new weapon, so there's less older, built up crap..

I've only seen a few 516s out in the wild and have been able to resist. Once I see one in FDE, I probably won't be able to resist.
