Just mounted a Vortex Sparc on my 556, hopefully Ill be able to zero it soon. It seems nice so far, I don't like absolute co-witness (prefer 1/3) but the mount wouldnt work for 1/3, just absolute. I mounted it with the tall riser, and it looks great. The 2x doubler is a nice bonus for zeroing and general stuff.

Overall it's pretty nice for under $200 shipped. Only down so far is that it shipped with a dead battery, so I have to buy some spares.

Let me know how it runs after a few thousand rounds of hard use. Congrats on getting an optic you like so far.

I had a sparc on my 556 for about a year and never had any trouble with it.  It was the only red dot I could find that would actually co-witness properly.  Like an eotech, it is easy to hit the NV button and kill the battery when you think it is off.  I have since taken the sparc off my 556 and gone with a Leupold 1x4.  I'm getting to old.  David

i mounted a Burris speed dot (3MOA) and co witnessed perfectly with the factory irons.

ended up running this instead. nothing wrong with the SD just had a 332 in the parts bin and liked it for an all around optic.

Burris makes good stuff too, the Vortex people are jst bad ass customer service though. I had a Viper PST backordered for a while, and when it showed up, they have me a t-shirt AND a fleece hat.

AND free shipping.

Neebie question. Do you need to take off the rear diopter sight to mount the optic? From the pic's i have seen it appears that the front hooded sight can stay on the 556.

You can mount it anywhere on the rail, as eye relief isn't a factor.

Mine is mounted immediately in front of the rear sight.
