| I had a SWAT Patrol 516 I bought last month and today I went into the shop and they had the basic patrol on sale ofr $999 so I bought one. These things really shoot great and I'm getting hooked on not having to clean the thing like I have to do on my DI guns. Like the Di guns but to open the receiver after 300 rounds and see nothing but clean is the shits. |

Nice! I've been kicking around the idea of adding one to my collection and would love to get your advice. Here's my reasoning: I like the ergonomics and modularity of the AR, and I really like the piston setup of the 556. The 516 seems like the best of both rifles, correct? Are there any drawbacks to the 516 over an LE6920, for example? Parts availability? Balance?
I've standardized on the 6920 type as my defensive/training rifle for it's reliability and parts availability. That said, now that I've gotten into the 556 I've put a lot of thought into the 516 as a logical next step-maybe not to replace my Colts/LMTs entirely but to supplement them. My hands are a bit small to reach the 556 controls without breaking my firing grip, so I'd love to have a 556 operating system in an AR shaped package. Thank you in advance for your input and expertise Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Thats what the 516 is. The nbest of both worlds. Its clean piston system, AR 15 design and Sig has a more robust receiver that is stronger than most regular AR 15's. It has the 1-7 twist crome barrel just like the 6920 but more reliable. Accuracuy is superb and the trigger is better.
