I have a new 556 SWAT and want to remove the factory front sight and use the Troy front and rear sights.

There is a small roll pin in the "nut" on the right side of the sight. Push it out, unscrew the nut using a hex key on the left side, then push the sight out of the dovetail. I used a drill bit on the roll pin because I didn't have a punch that small.

I had a thread on here somewhere on this, because I changed mine to a hooded front sight post.

The factory stock front sight is VERY TIGHT in that dovetail.

Here is the procedure I used:

1. Remove the retaining screw.

2. Support the gas block (I laid it across two pieces of wood on my work table).

3. Dump a shit ton of oil into the grooves around the dovetail notch and let it seep in for a few minutes.

4. Tap the front sight post out of the dovetail using a punch (of the correct size) and a mallet.

Mine took A LOT of tapping to finally come out.

Hope this helps.
