So who has long enough fingers to hit the magazine release without having to really stretch to reach it?   On my AR-15s I own, I can eject a magazine using the mag release with no effort.  My finger higs the magazine release button very easily.

On my two 556s, I have noticed that Sig put them about 1/4" too far out and I have to twist my wrist a little to reach out and hit it one handed.   I am 6 foot tall, so my hands are not small, but not basketball player large either.

Any idea why Sig moved the magazine release out so far?

Yes, it's out there a little bit more.  I have the same issue.  I did find that backing the nut/release out one full turn helped a little as I didn't have to press the release in so far.  I'm also wondering if switching out the SAW style grip to an AR style might bring my hand a bit further forward and alleviate said issue.  Seems like the smaller grip diameter would help get the hand forward more.

There's no way for a normal guy to maintain and firing grip while reaching the mag release. I'm left handed so it's even worse because the stock hinge blocks my thumb from reaching the selector.

It seems like it would be a simple matter for someone to develop an aftward-extended catch.  Half an inch ought to do it.

I reckon that they would sell like hotcakes.

I had the same problem with the mag release, so I bought a Magpul MOE grip and spent 20 minutes measuring and using a dremel on the grip (taking a little bit at a time off).  The smaller grip on the rifle looks better in my opinion but also allows me to drop the mag without adjusting my firing hand.

I haven't pulled the grip off yet.  Curious where most of the shaving needs to be done.  I assume you need to hog out the center?

If you're a lefty, it works great - just use your right thumb to hit it while grasping the receiver.

The center hole does need to be opened a little.  For the cuts on the sides I put the MOE grip over the sig grip that I took off.  Trace the lines of the sig grip on the MOE, make the initial cuts, try it on the gun, make some more cuts, and repeat until I had it just right. It only took 20 minutes from start to finish.

I have man hands and don't have any trouble hitting the release with my finger

Make your own guys.

An inexpensive oversized button disc attached to the original button via a short proper thread allen/set screw.
