| I never wanted to do business out of my house, but is there a way to list a PO BOX and then do transfers between trust worthy people like friends and family ? |
|
I guess I am confused. What would be the purpose of the PO Box? Correspondence only?
Lisence is restricted to one location, whether it be your residence or a storefront, that will be listed on the FFL and that's where you do business and receive firearms at that location. |
| You aren't making any sense. Your FFL has a premises address, this is where your records are stored and where transfers are to take place. Doesn't matter if you're doing business with Joe Blow or your dearest Aunt Edna, transfers take place at the licensed premises. The licensed premises must be zoned properly, and ATF will verify this before a license is ever issued. |
|
I have a Private mailbox as my FFL's mailing address where I receive correspondence.
However the premises is the actual address of the house where the business will be conducted. I think I know your problem. I had the same problem when I had my FFL at my house. The USPS did not recognize my home as a valid address. I fixed this by going to the post office and telling them directly. |

ATF would also have a problem if you just wanted a FFL to transfer to friends and family. You have to show them that you are interested in making it an actual business. |

Actually, as long as OP isn't getting the FFL to obtain firearms mostly or solely for himself, and as long as he is conducting or planning on conducting transactions, ATF really doesn't care. I would wager that most home-based dealers only or mostly sell firearms to people that they know personally (friends and family). |

I am home based and haven't transferred anything to myself and only 1 family member so far. Most of my business is local transfers for people I have never met. Then word of mouth from them has sent business my way. It's a second income for me, but I intend to make a profit at it and run it like a business. I'm not so sure that the ATF would be crazy about just a personal/friends/family only transfers. |

In any case, the requirements to get an FFL does not preclude that you can't sell only to friends and family members. As long as you meet the threshold requirements, you get the FFL. ATF can't just deny the application because the IOI didn't like the idea of the applicant saying that he was going to sell only to friends and family members. |
