This is really just something I was wondering, not so much a question that pertains to the business, but does anyone know how the sales reps for the distributors get paid?

Part of me thinks solely because it's a sales position it would be a base plus commission, but on the other hand they're really not selling anything so I could also see it being straight salary.

Any idears

I would imagine it varies by company, but I would think base plus commission is the industry norm.

As for not selling anything, the good reps are always selling.

"You buy two of these guns the company is trying to clear out I will give you a allocated gun"

"Order a few more items and I will give you a discount on shipping..."

My favorite was a call on the last day of the month. "You still want a Kel-Tec RFB? Okay I have one but you must fax payment in today by 3pm so the amount counts on this month's commission..."

So, do they get paid the same when the order is done all online?

Our sales rep at Simmons (part of Jerry's) only got a commission if we called him and ordered. If we ordered online from the Simmons website than we screwed the guy out of money, so we always called. Now that Ellett Bros. has bought out Jerrys/Simmons I don't know if that has changed.

Our Ellett sales rep gets a commission on every order we place regardless of how we place it. Personally I would think the distributors would encourage dealers to use online ordering as it is faster, easier, and they could save money on sales reps. (Sorry to any sales reps reading this..... )
