I'm putting together a rifle for a buddy in Iceland and he can only find exporters that charge 250 -500 dollars per gun plus some want 5% of the value of the gun.  I'm a Class 1 FFL and was wanting some feedback on getting a Export license?  Anyone know cost or have some first hand knowledge?  Just wondering if its worth my time.

Thanks

It's an expensive proposition to do it commercially. You first have to be registered with the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) at about $1700 a year. You'll need on-line verification of your signature for another couple hundred every two years then go through the (AES, etc.) export/import process for the given country. It's cheaper and a lot less headaches if you're only doing one or two guns to use an Exporter. Penalties for messing up can be bad.

Thanks for info.  Yeah not really worth dealing with that for 1 or 2 guns a year at the most.

Thanks again
