How difficult is it to change your location once you have your FFL established? I'm on the edge in regards to initially opening up a store front or running the company from an outbuilding on my home property.

Running it from home would allow me to operate with much lower initial expenses which would greatly increase my profitability during the start up phase. A store front however would greatly increase sales, but is much more risky and quite a bit more expensive.

I've never done it, but those who have report that it's just a matter of getting the paperwork done and is relatively painless.

It was easy- I sent in the form and they sent a new license.  Took about a month to process through.

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure what I'm going to do but will have to figure it out in the next week. A retail location would definitely increase walk in business but the expense would definitely increase operating expenses.

It takes about 30 days to change your location with the ATF.  It's not really a big deal since you'll know where you new location is going to be and have lease agreements in place long before you are ready to open.

Uhhhhhhhhhh..............although in theory ATF is supposed to have it changed in thirty days, in practice it can take a bit longer.
I submitted my change of address this past January 28th, received new FFL on March 8th. So much for the thirty days. Yes, I did bug the shit out of the National Licensing Center and the local ATF office. I swear I was couple of days away from calling my congressman.

There is no excuse in taking more than a month.

I've changed addresses three times in the last two years (divorce).  Each time took about 6 - 8 weeks from the date i mailed it in. Each time they would come out, go over the paperwork, but they never do a full inspection. Not a big deal though.
