Any recommendations as to which company to use to accept CC payments on a website?

There is a thread somewhere on here were someone posted the contact info for PAI, Payment Alliance International, I can't seem to find it.

HERE is a link to the NRA Business Alliance, I just called PAI number that is listed there, and got everything setup.

I use PAI- decent rates.  (888) 501-2273 is their number.

Does PAI work with any site? or do they help you get it working with your cart system?

As far as I know PAI will work with any cart/site.  Where I ran into problems is I started out using godaddy's cart, which evidently they do not share the ability to modify many different merchant processors.  I ended up ditching their cart and setting up my own cart.

You end up working with two companies, PAI and then another that actually interfaces with your site/cart to process the transaction.

Hmm ok, that sounds like a better option. Maybe I'll give them a call next week. We're trying to keep our monthly fees low, and everything that works "out of the box" with our cart doesn't allow firearms transactions or charges some monthly fees we want to avoid for now.

What cart you using?

Ubercart 2.2. We basically were going with what was free/ low cost but offered decent features. If my business partner (used to be an accountant) wasn't such a cheap ass I'd just go with  authorize.net, But the monthly fees would exceed our profit from the transactions for a while, which is not good for cash flow.

How is Ubercart to work with?  When I was first looking into it, I called authorize.net about processing our cards and was told that firearms are on their "prohibited" list.  As far as what I looked at, PAI is very reasonable.

I use their gateway to run all of my transactions.  It is $10 a month plus $.10 a transaction.  Super easy and if I read correctly it was an authorize.net emulator.  So if you can run authorize.net- you can run it.  Look it up- eprocessingnetwork.com  there is a demo on there.

If this is true this may work out very well for us, thanks for the info!

ETA: Is that their rate for everyone or do you need to be an NRA Business Alliance member for that rate?

Once you get the "logic" down or how the work flow goes it's pretty powerful. I really like all the backend stuff like reports, and the customization of things (with Conditional Actions). Now, coding a module to get a new payment processor into the site is apparently hard. I have a Computer Science/ Computer Engineering dual major friend who was working on getting gPal to work (before the recent troubles cause us to decide against that option) and he said the hardest part was figuring out how Ubercart and drupal work. I guess there isn't a lot of documentation.

The only thorn in our side has been payment processing because we don't want a high monthly cost until sales pick up enough to start covering it.

That is the flat rate for the gateway.  Give Cathy a call- she can get you set up with all the fees and rates. I am PMing you her info.

I am using Zencart, and it was as simple as replacing the url to point to your gateway, instead of authorize.net's gateway.  Granted it took me a while to locate the line of code that I needed to change.

That is no problem if it can replace authorize.net. coding a new module for a payment gateway that doesn't conform is a different issue.

The PAI/EprocessingNEtwork combination works great.  We just switched from the Authorize.Net emulation to the TDBE version, not perfect but i prefer the way it handles AVS etc..

With PAI can I get a terminal to swipe cards?

7/26/2010 10:07:57 AM EDT
[#17]
I believe so.  We have the software on a PC (Java based) and a card reader. though we now run it through our own POS.

BTW the PAI/Eprocessing combo also means you have no worries on PCI compliance and you wont be storing credit card numbers, which is a great thing to not to have to worry about.

Yes, you can.  They dont give you a free one like some places.  I prefer the Eprocessing way- like the security and being able to process where I want.

We use PAI and Eprocessing combo. Works great at a gun show, becuase you can use a laptop with an air card to do your background checks, and also hook up a usb card swiper and swipe cards on the virtual terminal.

I have to wonder why more dont do that, every show i go to has most of the folks calling in the checks and thats just a nightmare compared to how easy a laptop makes it for little overhead.

Do you have to use any particular card swiper or will any USB one work?

I had to get a swiper that was setup for Keyboard emulation. Double check with your processor just to make sure you get the right one.

I got decent one from these guys at a pretty reasonable price.

So how does CC processing work. If someone pays for a product on my website does PAI automatically charge their card for the order total? Where are the funds deposited to and how long until I have access to them?

If you have your cart set up that way, to "authorize and capture" yes it will.  Some people have their carts setup only to authorize the transaction, then they go back and capture the funds when the order ships.

The funds are deposited into your checking account automatically, which can usually take two to three days.

So I can set it up so that in ZenCart is will authorize the transaction and then when I ship I can go back and "capture" the transaction?

Is it real difficult to setup API to work with Zencart?

Sent you a pm, for me setting up PAI in Zen Cart was not too bad, change a URL and figure out which payment module to use, test it then go live.

If you can, use the eprocessing plugin for Zen over the Authorize.net plugin.  It brings in full CVV2/AVS checking etc.....
