I recently received my FFL. I did a group buy on some AR lowers on a local shooting forum that I sponsor and will have people picking them up this week. I realized after the fact that I only have about 5 4473's that the agent left when the did my interview. I had processed an order for several, but have not received them.

I have complete the E4473 before I received my FFL and am familiar with the way it works. I know it has to be printed, signed, and retained, but I was curious if there were any type of paper requirements. Does it have to be on regular letter, legal, paper bound together, or attached in any way.

I just want to cover myself for any future inspections and want to make sure my paperwork is immaculate.

Printing on regular laser paper is fine.

You can also print up some 4473s from their PDF files HERE

You must print the entire thing including the instructions.

There was a FAQ I found on the ATF website that said it was required on yellow paper so I bought yellow paper. That seems odd to me since the actual 4473's the ATF left with me are white. I want to be by the book though and found that somewhere on the site.

Is there any "ruling" or proof of this online anywhere ?  If I can find supportive evidence, I'd like to print it and keep it at the shop so I can use the white paper without fear.

I don't want to be the guinea pig that gets written-up on my first inspection, just because the paper is the wrong color.

During the 08 election panic we were forced to have our own 4473s printed as we were running out. The KC field office told us that the copies did NOT have to be on yellow paper, but as already mentioned, ALL pages had to be copied.

It appears to me that whenever the BATF makes changes to the 4473, they run the first batches on yellow paper. My guess is it makes it easier on the FFLs to know they are using the newest form. After awhile the BATF switches back to running white forms.
