My CPA has been after me to start a small business from home for tax reasons. Of course, the first thing I think of is something in the shooting industry. I shoot a lot of IDPA and 3 gun, so I was thinking something in this area and going ahead and getting an FFL. I would be doing this out of my home (actually my shop out back). My first question is concerning receiving shipments. I am at my full time job 4 days a week and get home in the evenings- never the same day off each week. What would be the best way to receive shipments? I would hate for something to arrive on a Monday and my next day off would be Friday. USPS is what I am worried about - UPS and FedEX after hours pickup locations are not far from my work.

Once a delivery attempt has been made to your premises address, you can redirect the shipment to a different address for final delivery, or have the shipper hold it for pickup.  You just need to be clear with your postman and delivery drivers that shipments to the shed out back shouldn't be left on the porch.

Rent a box at the UPS Store, they'll sign for and store all your packages.

BATFE requires a physical address for your premises. There can be other addresses for correspondence, but the premises can't be a PO Box.

Shipments are not required to be addressed to or delivered to the licensed premises. That's why ATF shows the licensee's premises address AND a mailing address on the license. If the FFL wants to receive his firearm shipments at a third address for UPS shipments and a fourth address for FedEx he certainly can.

This is why I recommended a box at the UPS Store for receiving shipments. They will accept UPS, FedEx and USPS whereas UPS & FedEx will not deliver to a post office box.
