Hey Guys -

Read this forum for a while, but just picked up my first Aug (Thanks Pete!).

Here's my optics.  Any suggestions/gotchas/opinions to improve?  Thanks!

Welcome to ARFcom! Nice looking AUG you have there. I've got an MSAR and I have a Vortex Strikefire on it right now. Really thinking about putting one of these on it. Although, I may just settle for a Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 and save a little dough spend the difference on some more guns or ammo.

Beautiful AUG !

I am not an AUG purist and I like the NATO stock to use
the same mags as my AR/Tavor

ARFCOM industry supporter has GenII PMAGS for $10.49 ....

Thanks Devin!  No kidding on the $$$ for ammo... I bought three boxes of American Eagle Federal for $20 each - 30 count.  Yowza!

Thanks CopM4!

I've got nothing against Aug mags... but I had some Magpuls lying around from a Sig 556 I use to have so why not?

I have to admit I do kinda want a standard (non-NATO) Aug in CQC format tho.

Is that a 3X or 4X?  Looks like it's a bit too far forward for it to be 4X...I have the longer 20/20 rail, and the 4X acog mounted at the very rear is PERFECT.
ETA:  you might be 6'2" or have long arms and can use a 4X at that location--I'm 5'10" with short T-Rex arms.

If that 3X works for you AND you can transition between targets at 30-75Ys fast (if BAC works well for you!), then I say leave it as is...the grass isn't always greener (well, I guess depending on the circumstances are--there are better optics for 5-75Y and better optics for 75-500Ys), though it's taken me probably $4000 in optics to figure that out--most were sold for a slight loss, so in the end, I'm probably only down about $500-$600.

I can't transition fast with the 3X, but the 4X has a larger field of view that helps at the 75Y range, BUT I use an RMR on top for everything inside 75Y anyway (no back-up irons/plastics)...and though I was always eye-relief sensitive, for some reason the 4X works perfectly for me on the AUG (though I still can't use the BAC for some reason--and I'm WAAAAAY off...like 2ft at 7Ys).

I like the Trijicon TA 31A.

I've got a TA33R-8 ACOG in a Larue LT-105 compact QD mount on my AUG A3. Luv it!

4x - but I have decent eye sight somehow.  I do prefer to have it further back, but there is only so much space for backup sights.  Thinking about ditching those or finding a longer/higher rail.  Definitely want to get a QD with a throw lever mount at some point for the ACOG.

What are some good sources for rails - ie, where did you get your 20/20?  I'd really like one I could use a quick disconnect sling swivel with (hence the interest in the CQC at some point).

I tried an EOTech EXPS with a 3x FTS magnifier, but it is just too wide for the rail, makes usability an issue without throwing on an after market handle (Manticore I think).

I don't think I'm advanced enough as a marksman yet to really leverage BAC.  Mostly I just continue my never-ending war on paper... nothing fancy going on here.  :)

Thanks for the feedback - much appreciated!
