I've got a straight pull AUG which I use to shoot Civilian Service Rifle matches in the UK. It has the standard left handed charging handle and a modified handle on the right hand side for speed - due to the gun laws in the UK prohibiting semi auto rifles in centre fire calibres (if anyone is really interested, I'll post a picture; however I am pretty confident you've all seen an AUG before)
The rifle is great, accurate and easy to use, except... Some of the courses of fire at the matches require you to start from a standing position and move into prone on the first exposure of the target. In this scenario, a round is chambered and safety applied. However I have found that when I do this, the rifle does not fire the round. The trigger feels normal and appears to function normally. If I rack it and chamber another round, it fires fine; however at that point, I have wasted a round. At the moment, I leave the action locked back until I am in prone (which I prefer to use of the safety); however it annoys me that it does this. Anyone have any experience of this or what might be causing it? Thanks, Matt |

Does it only happen when you go prone? Can you replicate it standing, etc?
It sounds as if you safety is only partially disengaging, enough to let the trigger move enough to let the hammer fall but not enough to let it strike the firing pin? Which sounds strange...I'll have to take my AUG apart when I get home to see how the safety does it's thing. I suppose it's also worth asking what kind of trigger pack you have; semi-auto only or a full-auto one (can you get a full auto one there? I'd imagine it's not regulated as the rifle's a straight-pull to begin with?) |

Thanks for your reply! It does also happens when standing.
I don't know what sort of trigger it is, it does have a "trigger tamer" fitted to it though (I would love to get a Ratworx trigger - but they won't ship to the UK thanks to ITAR). Interesting point about the partial disengage, there might be something in that |

Ahh! A trigger tamer, that might be it. If it's the actual "trigger tamer" big plastic thingie, try getting rid of that, I'll bet that's it. You can replace it pretty easily, with a "neu-trigger", sold by I believe a member here. I can't really get into more details as he's not a dealer nor does he have a dealer's account here...but I have one, and while it's a bit expensive for what it is (you'll see what I mean when you get it)...once you fit it, you'd gladly buy it at twice the price once you see how well it works. Google should point you right at Neu-Trigger.
(And no I won't give you stick for having a tamer...I think everyone who shoots one of these is aware of how crappy the trigger can be |

I have inspected it and it looks ok, however I must confess that I know more about ARs than AUGs.
I don't have any parts, I bought it already modified. If I take the tamer off, won't the trigger revert to its usual awful setting? I'm still looking into getting a neu trigger if I can... |
