a friend of mine have a Steyr AUG without flash hider...
I'd like to get him a FH for xmas.

so does anybody make an AUG flash hider? I dont care if it's a replica with 1/2x28 thread since the barrel needs to be threaded

TIA

Interesting, since it's not threaded is it a Steyr USR barrel? I'm sure you can find a Steyr AUG flash hider somewhere. I get all my Steyr AUG parts from here http://www.pjs-steyraug.com/. One thing to keep in mind is the original Steyr AUG barrels have an unusually long thread job and use a nut that goes on before the flash hider. This seller has a Steyr USR barrel that was threaded for the barrel nut and flash hider to show what I'm talking about http://www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/parts.cgi?read=301463

thanks GD,
I'm not familiar with the AUG world so I had to google USR to find some info
found this: http://www.steyr-aug.com/usr.htm

so seems like a USR barrel...here's an old pic I took long time ago
btw, can blueprints for the theading job be found on line?

Well I do know the AUG threads are M13x1L. You don't have to do the barrel nut, you could just thread it like normal for the flash hider. But I bet Pete from pjs-steyraug.com knows the specs for the AUG thread job, he's the expert.

The USR barrel has a larger OD than the AUG barrel. I guess you could thread it for a FH but I doubt an AUG FH would work to your satisfaction. To me it would look funny and out of place on a USR barrel.

good point...I didnt think about the different OD...

what about MSAR flash hider...are they available?
they're close to the original design and maybe cheaper than the ones that Pete sells

I think the gun looks fine. I think he should shoot it and enjoy it the way it is. There is numerous gun related stuff you could get him. By the way you are a good friend to want to do this.

Hey There,

Couple of thoughts off the top of my head.  What everyone has said to you is true.  Augs barrels have a metric pitch.  IF it the barrel was threaded for that pitch, I'd recommend the FSG Flash Suppressor that we make.  IT works vastly better than the stock one.  Now having said that....

I too have a USR barrel. The outside diameter is big.  You are going to have to turn that down, and then have it threaded.  Now, if you were going to do that, and go through that trouble, in all honesty I'd have it threaded for the standard AR thread pitch.  This will give you a lot of choices for a flash supressor.  We have some of those as well, but there are lots of good choices out there.
