HI,

I have a Spring 2010 production E4.  There was a bunch of hoopla back then about a large batch of E4's having a non-spec (non-AR) thread on the end of the barrel.  Two questions:

1.  How do I tell if I have the non-AR-15 type threads which will not work with most muzzle devices?  If it helps in the box there was some sort of muzzle attachment (looks like an extremenly small "can").  The rifle has a 16" + Tulip.

2.  If I have the non-AR-15 type threads, is there a BattleComp made for this application?

Here's a pic if it helps:

It looks now like the end of your muzzle exploded.

Ya those "tulips" are weird –– here's another pic:

Silver ring means it is a 13-1LH non-AR15 thread.

There is no factory Battlecomp for your gun.  You could buy a regular Battlecomp and send it to Ratworx to have it threaded 13-1LH.  They only charge $10.

Wow $10 –– thats great.  I assume them rethreading it is as good/durable as anything else.

Wish I had asked 3 months ago when I mailed in my receiver to have the magazine catch upgraded.

Thanks!

Could also buy the thread adapter from ratworx.

Is the thread adapter a small C-cell battery sized can looking thing?  If so, it came with the rifle in the box.

It's female threaded on one end and male threaded on the other.

Looks like your E4 came with a STG barrel .

A lot of them came that way in 2010.  Mine's the same way, don't like it but what's a guy to do?

Wow...  if my E4 came with an STG barrel, I'd be raising hell with the dealer that sold it.  One of the selling points of the E4 was that it had a 1/2x28 threaded barrel.  Sounds like MSAR may have been trying to make some guns out of surplus spare parts.  I wonder if they sold them to dealers as reduced price E4's.  Who did you buy your E4 from?

Bought it through Ratworx and got it for a really fair price.  I believe they were trying to sell some guns using parts that they already had, kind of pissed me off but what could I do?  It's not like they have extra barrels sitting around with 1/2-28 threading.

Depends upon how they advertised the rifle.  If they advertised it and sold it as an E4 with no caveats, I'd be pissed and make them at least re-thread the barrel on their dime.  However, if they advertised it and sold it in such a manner as to make it clear that it wasn't a new, stock E4, then that's another matter.

One of the several reasons why I lost the urge to buy an E4...

I believe Adco will re-thread your barrel.  It won't be as cheap as getting RatWorx to re-thread your muzzle device, but if you plan on swapping out muzzle devices, or sharing a suppressor between your E4 and other black rifles, it's the only way to go.

ADCO re-threaded my AUG A3 bbl and I had it back within 3 days.  $65.

The biggest hurdle to putting muzzle devices on the AUG threading isn't the thread pitch, but the fact that the damn threads are so long.  ADCO will cut it back just enough so that your bbl remains over 16", and you have the standard 0.625" of threads so you don't have to use a checknut anymore.

There was no advertisement to the contrary. When it was going on it sparked quit a debate , one side siting "you should get what you paid for " and the other side siting " its still shoots stop your whining " . Basically ethics were drowned out in the debate. People didnt push the issue with MSAR and the fanboys either never spoke up in displeasure or continued they're blinding support.  We are all to blame for letting MSAR get away with it, dealers included.

I got an E4 last spring with the STG 13x1mm threading.  Pissed me off to no end!!!  I even called MSAR Dave back then and he said to send in my barrel and he would swap it out for a 1/2" threaded E4 barrel, fair and even.  Well....a month passed and I called him and he said "sorry, we don't have any more 1/2" threaded E4 barrels, nothing I can do" and he sent me back my STG barrel.  I paid shipping and was without my barrel for a month and I got nothing for it but getting further pissed off.

MSAR sucks.  The rifle rocks.  I'm planning to send mine to ADCO for a 1/2"-28 rethreading.  The only upside about keeping my 13x1 STG barrel is that I know this barrel shoots any steel case ammo I want to throw at it, it eats everything on the low gas setting too.  A replacement barrel may or may not shoot cheap steel cased ammo.

I'm the OP - I bought mine from RatWorx back in around April 2010.  I was on a waiting list for about 6 weeks or so, then they called me to say the big batch of E4s were in.  I was given a choice of stock colors and offered the SWAT, ended up going with a black 16".

I was a little bummed to heard about the thread issue - but did not do anything about it (not a big enough deal to me).

That does suck. I almost bought an E4 with scope just to get the taller optic and 1/2x28 threading. My plan was to swap stocks with someone as I don't like all of the extra rails on the E4 stock and don't have an AR to make the mag compatibility advantageous. Went with a railed 20" STG instead and had ADCO cut and thread the barrel to 18 5/8". I'm glad I went that route.
