I may be wrong about this, but if memory serves me correctly that is about 14lbs of weapon he has shouldered in the photo. If so that thing would be tough to hump through the boonies. The other option would be to carry a M224 with an assault base plate, which would be quite a bit heavier. |

The tube of the 224 weighs about the same as this thing but, it is a crew served motar with the burden of the base plate and bipod spread out among three people. Either way I would rather not hump something quite so heavy. |

Not sure on the weight, but remember it's not just gross weight it's weight distribution that counts as well. Its bullpup configuration should makes the weight seem not so bad since most of it will rest up on the shoulder. Good point, balance and compactness do assist in making weight more manageable. I just wouldn't want to hump it! |

It gives you around 1800 meter range, so this gives a somewhat similar capability in a lighter package. |

XM-25 and it's 25mm rounds are so smart if it were any smarter it would write a book that would make Ulysses look like it was written in crayon and then it would read it to you. Maximum lethality with maximum dispersal with the ranged air burst. 700 meter of laser precision direct fire with a 25mm pre-programed smart round. There are going to be some Taliban compound walls with a fresh coat of paint soon...red high gloss. |
|
Great thing with a smart 25mm round that can airburst over its target is that you don't need a 40mm, because there is no ground or surface absorbing any part of the explosion you get the full explosion and full spread of the mass uninhibited. So you can carry more 25mm rounds than you could with 40mm rounds and have the same impact if not more so on your target. |
| From what I get, the laser range finder sends target range to the smart round........say the target is behind a wall at 325 meters, the operator can use a + button to add another meter. BOOM........airburst on the farside of the wall, same concept for the XM307. |

Hmmmm. Looks like the U.S. Army might have just procured and issued it's first Bullpup-type infantry weapon. Even though it's currently in limited service, it will be interesting to see how it develops. Though not Army, SEALs are mucking around with this thing, but I don't know to what scale of issue or if it's in an operational testing status. http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/9455/sealstestingsrssgen3mar.jpg NTM That's an M1 conversion, not an xm-25. http://www.shortrifles.com/photo_gallery.htm |
