I've asked this question in several places with no response, and I'm pretty certain you read them, so I'll ask it here too now. Has MSAR ever started the caliber change options(the ones that have been on the MSAR website forever now) to sell to distributors??
If so, what year will they be released?? If not, then why????? The option to change calibers is a HUGE part of the reason I went with your company.
Just waiting for an answer

The economy may be putting alot of these projects on hold. And really, 5.56 is the best caliber for any carbine.
5.56 is way better than 5.45, 7.62x39 and 6.8. Load your 5.56 with 55gr and you match 5.45. Load your 5.56 with 77 gr and your way ahead of 7.62 and neck and neck with 6.8. You should spend your money on more ammo and shooting than caliber changes. IMHO. |

After watching the "nutnfancy" video of the MSAR booth at SHOT this year I get the impression that MSAR (at least Tony Jr.) were anticipating a slow-down in the rifle market this year and were concentrating on their knife production. Then surprise nobody wanted to pay a ton of money for the ACR and apparently a lot of guys had money saved up for them those guys spent their money on MSAR rifles and we've had a surge in sales. Add that to the fact that MSAR seems to be having issues with their factories (are they moving or are they going to operate both factories?) and we've got a slow down in MSAR production for the first time since they started selling. From what I understand MSAR has also scored some LEO contracts. They scored these contracts after Tony smartly (he was smart in doing this) downsized his staff back before the industry started seeing that slow down that took place at the end of last year. I also think they've lost a CNC machine or two so their output is probably smaller than what they were able to do. We see now on a weekly basis guys asking for rifles, magazines, on waiting lists, looking for parts, and I don't recall the demand ever outmatching supply this bad. I want to see production steady once again to match demand on the standard E4s and parts. Once they get there I think they should do the caliber conversion FIRST before doing the Modular Carbine System. Although if the economy gets worse I'm sure they will want to push out first with the MCS and Archangel pistol to get firearms in lower price brackets to their line of products. Good news is that they're making good money. I would bet their first quarter this year is looking pretty good (not sure on their overhead though). They should be able to do what they want and give us what we want. |

SilentType your answer is very detailed, but is that the official MSAR company line, or just what seems logical to you? Granted, i agree, but I think there are several out there who would like OFFICIAL information as to whether the multi-caliber project is continuing, on hold, suspended, or just cancelled.
We haven't heard anything at all from Dave, and he seems to be ignoring the issue... granted, Dave is busy providing the best customer service the firearms industry has ever seen, but it would be great if he could address the subject just to set it to rest. |

Nooooo. I am not officially related to them in any way. Just a fan like a guy at Fenway Park wearing a Red Sox ball cap. If Dave doesn't answer chances are it is because he doesn't have an answer for you. They may have plans that aren't yet finalized or still be debating timelines or products. |

We are working on the extractor design today. Stuff like this takes time. I have learned quite a bit in the last couple of years. One, is to not hurry. Get it right, then ship it. When we feel comfortable saying that all three of the "new" calibers will function 100%, 100% of the time, I will let you guys know and we will ship them. The same goes for the MCS. Another thing I have learned, is it is probably not such a good idea to let everybody in on what we are working on. I guess that is why most of the companies that are making guns keep their R&D projects under wraps. We want to ship these products ASAP, but we need them to be right the first time out the door.
Have a great day. Dave Robertson MSAR |

I'm very glad that you're taking the time to get it right, as i intend to own one of each type, and i'd hate for any of them to be sub-par. |

Kinda Shrike-ish.....LOVE my E-4, just hate the tease and all the sometimes and soons. |

get over yourself. Assume it is not coming and move on with your life. I bought my E4 with the dream of a 5.45mm. Now it's for sale on the EE. Since I have two stg's I'll sell off the e4 and get an ak and a ar upper with the money. I'm not crying about it since I bought bought it on sale and got it with the factory (now disconninued) optic I'll more thgan likely make a couple of bucks.
Lesson learned........buy what is available not what is in development. |
