Ok, I have searched, and so far no one has posted any closeup pics of the gas settings, and after studying it, I think I have it figured out.

Essentially the side of the rivet opposite the tab is the "pointer" and it rests over the corresponding gas setting Marks (big bump (H), little bump (S), and GR

The markings are not labelling the NOTCHES

See if these pics make better sense...

Does that look right?

thanks,
mike

Near bottom of post, Huntsville Sniper was being facetious in your other post.

Ah, well I see huntsville's "lol" now, but I never even looked at that other post titled AUG breakdown.
I keep forgetting that they are basically the same rifle.

thanks,
Mike

Good post. I didn't think to check the tacked thread either.

It's also worth mentioning that most E4's do not have the grenade setting.

Does anyone konw which setting to use with a Suppressor?

Whichever one works best with your suppressor.  The GR setting will be the quietest though, but you'll have to manually cycle between shots.

Awesome! Thanks for the detailed pictures. I vote for a tack!
Now one question the manual doesn't even address:

How the hell do you turn the damn thing??

ETA: nevermind figured it out

We don't need another tack at the top.  Pretty soon 1/2 of the forum will be tacks.

If you look at my tacked detailed takedown thread, I show how to turn the gas regulator.

Maybe you could add WTS-Mike's pictures to your tacked thread since MSAR's settings are different than Steyer's?

The MSAR's settings are identical to the Steyr's apart from the "S" and "H" casted onto the gas block.  I'll stick them on the OP on the tacked thread w/ Mike's permission.

Never noticed the GR setting.  What's it for?

It's quiet in Grenade, but a pain in the ass to cycle every time.

GR = Grenade setting.  Turns off the gas system when using blanks to launch over-the-barrel rifle grenades.  Pretty obsolete now with the under-barrel launchers like the M203, but it can be used to make the rifle single-shot when using a suppressor.
