Has anyone attempted, or know if it is even possible, to mount a mini red dot sight such as the burris fast fire or Trijicon RMR on to the factory STG optic?  I've seen various scope mountied platforms on the market for MRDs but havent got around to measuring the diameter of the factory optic at its larget point.

The front part of the tube is a hair under 1", the rear bell is a hair under 30mm

I had the exact same thought some time ago, and yes, assume an SAR mount from Victor at TVNC can clamp down enough it should work.

It's not a horrible idea but just breaking it down here; the optic is 1.5x and a fastfire, dr optic etc are 1x.  On say a 4x acog it makes sense but in my opinion they are too close in magnification to make it worth while.

Originally I had the same opinion regarding the minimal magnification difference from 1.5x and a 1x, but personally I've found the factory optic to be a little slow for my preference in a CQB enviorment and the lack of its ability to gather light a little less then ideal indoors.  I'm not knocking the factory optic, actually I'm quite happy with it.  I attempted transitioning soly to the optic's backup sights in CQB, but found the short sight radius and lack of dots or a tritium insert made them also hard to find.  Maby its just my aging eyes.  Overall I think the optic is ideal for open area and under daylight conditions, but wanted to find a quick fix for what I though were its weak points.   I'll quit complaining though because it only cost me $50.00 more than the railed version.

99% of my experience has been with Aimpoints and Eotech optics, but I love the look of an origianal AUG and wanted to maintain the look.  Thanks to everyone on the forum.  The info posted has really been benifical over the years.

tactical Night Vision COmpany has their mini red dot and their SAR mount for attaching to a 30mm scope for under $200 as a package deal.
