| Has anyone built and installed a brass deflector on there STG556/E4? What is the concensus good idea or waste of time? |

Nope. Then again I never thought a brass deflector on the AR15 was all that necessary. Yeah, but the AR doesn't eject brass into your teeth when you transition to the weak side.
We had a thread where we talked about brass deflectors, but it kind of petered out. I think we ended up talking about sticking Mr. Potatohead parts in a small hole behind the ejection port.

It would be easy anough to drill a hole, insert a heli-coil, & install a bd. With that said I do not plan on drilling holes in my stock. I was wondering if anyone else has a simpler idea? |

If I was putting one together I would fashion a deflector to attach just like the MSAR ejection port cover that comes with the gun. Then it would hug the contour of the stock on to the other side and over-hang the port just enough to deflect the case down to avoid kicking into the face on the weak side. It would be ambidextrous in shape so a south paw would just turn it around and attach. Keep it simple and low profile.

The attachment on the pictured rifle looks more like a comb raiser than a brass deflector. I don't think it would keep brass out of your face. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=269&t=182428 |

The best part is it does not require modification to the stock it's self. |

I agree this would be easy anough for someone to offer as a after market product. |

Oh yeah, you're right that is what it is, but I was thinking it could be redesigned to deflect brass. Would be neat to see how it secures to the stock as well. |

The best part is it does not require modification to the stock it's self. The port overhang would be the "minimum" needed to deflect the brass and have "slight" downward bends on each end to help deflect the brass no matter whether it's attached on either side. The bends would also reduce the risk of something snagging on the deflector from the front (on either side). It would be made out of the same material as the current port cover. IMO an easy to mold part. Flexible enough to twist into the dead port then snap over the stock hump. I have the design in my head but no computer skill or ability to draw it up to post it. :( My .02. |

So far this is the best picture that I have found of the AUG in 9mm. It looks like the the ejection port is raised all of the way around and acts like a brass deflector. http://img3.myimg.de/augpolice867.jpg The ejection port looks huge compared to a 5.56 Aug. |
