Having trolled for many months, I just registered; this is my first post. As a knife junkie, I became acquainted with Microtech during its Vero Beach, Florida days; in my opinion, owning many custom and production knifes, whether fixed blade of folder, auto or manual, there are no finer knives than Microtechs. When I learned that Anthony (Tony) was going to produce an improved STG-77, I was elated; mindful of the quality (engineering, tolerance, etc.) of his knives, I realized the concept would be a perfect "fit" and if anyone could pull it off it would be he. Being an avid AUG fan, I also watched MSAR's version thereof evolve from its inception through its latest version (including minimal initial teething problems, Tony's proactive correction thereof, responsive customer service, etc.). Noteworthy was my observing the increasing affordability of the rifle and, importantly, availability of spare parts. Finding comfort in the judgment/opinions of Peter Kokalis, the authors of respected articles (e.g. Small Arms Review, etc.) and, perhaps most importantly, the opinions of the members of this forum who work equally hard to finance their firearm purchases/are not inclined to throw money away, last Wednesday, I ordered a green STG (not E-4) "rail rifle" with extra magazines from Ratworx; some deals are simply too good to pass up. Having read both the good and bad, I am admittedly a bit apprehensive about the forthcoming initial range session (prior to which, I intend to both field strip and thoroughly lubricate the same).
That said, I intend to do something a little different regarding optics (yes, I already have an Aimpoint for the purpose of function firing/eventual NV acquisition); preferring accuracy to speed, I intend to scope the rifle. Years ago while walking the aisles at a gun show, I stumbled upon such scope at a table laden with other fine objects and, asserting my frugality, immediately walked away; $550.00 for a 1.5 - 6 Schmidt Bender (a $1,250.00 scope). Fortunately, the ghost of my long-since deceased optics mentor got the best of me and I later returned and bought the scope (for decades, Bill owned a highly respected optics shop and, with the exception of an Elcan on his AR, he stated nothing but SB would go on his rifles). As I recall, the original Swarovski scoped AUGs were 1.5 power and, having shot the same, were both accurate (despite the low power and less than optimal reticle) AND fast. Built like a tank, with its 30 mm steel tube and manageable over all length, wide field of view and inherent brightness, my SB should not only work better than the "factory" scope, upon need/with its 6 power versatility, I should be able to extract that little extra "fineness" (accuracy) out of the rifle. Now I just need to await the rifle's arrival, get a sense for the height of the factory rail and select the appropriate quick detachable Mil-spec mounts. Comments are appreciated. |
