I was wondering if anyone knew the current price of a used Steyr AUG A1.  An old friend of mine bought it brand new during the mid 80's with five 30 round magazines.  He put about 200 rounds through it and it went back in the original box.  Since then, he's taken it out twice and it's had about 100 more rounds through it.  It's in great condition.  He wants to sell it to me so we are currently trying to research a fair price.  He's checked both the gunbroker and gunsamerica websites and it seems the average price was around $2300.  I just wanted to double check here to see if anyone had additional information regarding the price of this weapon.  Thanks.

Do it for $2300, IMO.

Those original AUGs are keeping their value, regardless of the A3 being available.

And keep all the stuff he has for it: box, manual, and hopefully the test target. That helps with resale value later.

Thanks!  I'm pretty sure that I'm going to add this AUG to the collection.

It doesn't hurt that the original AUGs have a a Swarovski scope...

im sorry but given its condition i would certainly myself pay more than 2,300 for it. Is it green or black? What are the first three digits of the serial number?

i say its closer to $2,800.

It's green, but I don't know what the serial number is.  Thanks for all the replies, this really helped.  I've never shot an AUG or any other kind of bullpup type of carbine but have always thought it was a neat weapon.  When I was in the Army, we trained with the Australian Infantry and they seemed to like their AUG's a lot.
